The start of the New Year marks the return of the Weekly General Knowledge quiz. As mentioned on the Misc. Other Football thread, I will be taking over hosting duties from South Lanarkshire Jag, who is being demoted moved to our sister quiz on there.

The quiz will follow a similar format to that used in my Weekly Football Quiz, which was in turn copied from SLJ's General Knowledge Quiz from last year, which he probably stole from the one which came before him. For any of you who haven't been involved in one of these quizzes before, the format and rules of the quiz are outlined below.


Format

Each round will consist of 10 questions. Every round will have a different format or theme, which will be explained at the time. I want the quiz to cover as wide a range of subjects as possible, but here will of course be gaps in my knowledge and I am not going to be able to produce rounds in areas which I don't know enough about. To that end, I will be welcoming offers to host "guest rounds" later on in the quiz - these would involve a participant coming up with a round for the rest of the quizzers.

The questions will initially be posted on a Wednesday, and answers must be in by midnight on the following Monday. This is a provisional choice for the quiz days, but I will give notice if this is going to change. The first round will definitely be this Wednesday.

Please send me the answers via a PM. The correct answers will be normally be posted on Tuesdays, along with individual round scores and the overall leaderboard. Late entries will not be accepted - 5 whole days is plenty of time. There may, of course, be alterations to the schedule if I am unavailable, and you will be notified of these as early as possible.

All questions will be posted on this thread.

The initial plan is to run the quiz until the end of June, but this could change depending on how popular it is.


Rules

I will endeavour to make at least some of the questions ungoogleable, but of course there will be questions which can be looked up. This is supposed to be a fun quiz , so I would encourage you not to use any search engines or books to find the answers.

Spelling is not generally important, and as long as the answer is understandable I will give you credit for it. If I require clarification I will PM you - the onus is on you to respond to this. There may be exceptions to this (eg a spelling round).

Each answer will be worth one point unless stated otherwise.

Where the answer is a person's name, I am looking for a FULL NAME. Answers which only give a surname will only receive half a point.

I will take the utmost care to ensure that my questions and answers are accurate, but inevitably something could slip through the net. If you dispute one of my answers and can provide a credible source, then I would look into it further. However, my decision is final.

No sign-up is necessary. You are more than welcome to join in whenever you want, even after the quiz has started. You do not have to answer every round, but you will have the best possible chance of winning overall if you do.

Unfortunately, the quiz hasn't started yet, so your bonus point won't carry forward. You can wear it as a badge of honour though.

I'm going to do this by the rules (mainly because I have read the rules this time) and will do the football quiz that way if it starts again. I don't expect to be anywhere near top spot in either quiz.

Since it is the first round, I will remind you that I require full names. Spelling is not important.
