Toshiba even !

Looking at this laptop and was looking for any advice / comments

http://www.johnlewis...90/Product.aspx

Just looking for a laptop in this price range with generally decent performance, functionality and reliability; its to be a general family use (internet, music, photos, word processing seme Xcel) not looking to play games or anything outrageous. This comes with 2 years warranty which seems decent.

Any comments ?

Fairly recently we were selling C660's as one of our basic spec laptops to customers. We've now stopped after we had to ship back around a dozen or so to Toshiba under warranty. Toshiba support is pretty poor compared to other manufacturers.

They are also quite flimsy laptops compared to the likes of HP. Cheap looking was the general feeling. Also only 2 usb ports is a nonsence. My 7 year old Sony Vaio has 3.

I wouldn't but it's up to you.

Usually whenever I hear of someone looking at buying a Toshiba product, there's another person who steps in with something negative to say.

The spec is alright, more than enough for what you want it for. I know you said you don't need it for gaming, but bear in mind that it does have a rubbish integrated graphics card so it will be next to useless for that.

I had a Toshiba satellite pro a couple of years ago, fucking loved that laptop. Got up one morning and it was dead though. Bought 3 laptops in the following six months trying to find one I liked as much. A samsung, a Dell and a HP; don't ever buy a Samsung they're the biggest pile of crap on the planet. My only criticism of the Toshiba would be that it did seem to heat up more than the others, but performance wise it was streets ahead.
We must remember that in time of war what is said on the enemy's side of the front is always propaganda and what is said on our side of the front is truth and righteousness, the cause of humanity and a crusade for peace.

The Toshiba has a good processor, 6 GB of RAM and a big HDD. Everything else is bog standard laptop stuff with some dire specs like only 2 USB ports but it is cheap for the performance specs so it seems like a good deal.

Only comparable laptop is a HP g6 range which is about the same money but you get an HDMI out which I can't see on the Toshiba.

Only thing I would add is that the graphics card is pretty rubbish. But if, as you say, you're not going to be doing much gaming then this won't be an issue.
