Don't think this is probably the right place on the site but thought maybe you guys might be more informative than gen d.

My daft lovely wife dropped her less than two month old mobile right into a cup of tea.Did all the usual mullarky. took it to bits right away put it in a bag of sillica crystals, well dried, turned it on. Seemed ok but now battery has run out and won't charge and the sound is really low when making a call.

So we thought easiest thing? Claim the insurance that comes with the phone. Here lies the problem. When the wife phoned up Phones4u they say they have no record of the insurance. Wife is almost certain the insurance was free for one month and then opt out. Can't be 100% as she had been through a couple of companies before she took a deal offered. Now according to the contract this is the case. So we contacted company again and they pull the Phone call she made when ordering her phone.Upon revision at no point does the telesales girl mention the insurance yet as the company admit it is part of the telesales prompt in front of the girl. Somehow the lassie has missed it out and not filled the screen prompts in either. So effectively no insurance.

What I'm looking to find out is do we have a claim that it was their error during the contract stages? Or can we now cancel the contract without charge as it seems to me they haven't fulfilled their own criteria in the contract.

of course we have house insurance but the excess is £250.

And that was not a good start, losing the Doctor at this stage of the game is pretty catastrophic, the Mafia will be creaming themselves after that kill. Particularly when the Doctor is as skilful a player as Forehead is.

Escalate it. Then, if you dont get anywhere, get the email address of the Sales Director, or CEO and email them. You can pretty much guarantee that their office will cave, if their company has made a mistake

Problem with that is they will see that she has stopped ising the phone when you go to claim and ask you why.

edited to add-Also you may find that the network will not insure the phone as it is from Phones 4 U.

Tbh I'm too much of a wuss to have blagged that one out .Mr X's advice seems about the most sensible course of action. Even if nothing comes of it I'll feel better having vented my anger at someone.

Cheers again guys!

I think a lot of the companies whom with you take insurance out from, if a claim is made within the first year, they need 12 months paid up front and the excess. You'll probably be looking at the best part of £100.

Still better than paying for a new phone yourself though.
