Let's just say the vote on our independence from the union was held next week.

I know we have a on going discussion on another thread, but like me, cant be bothered reading through it all, so lets just have a mini P&B referendum

How would you vote, and why?

Confirmed Autumn 2014 for the referendum on independence

Yes to full Independence. Cannot be arsed elaborating as I'm sure xbl will arrive with an essay which will probably point out the reason why.

Full independence, but not a president. Unnecessary expense, which costs the Americans tens of millions per year keeping their old ones in the lap of luxury.

I voted no, I wish to stay part of the Union.

That's not saying that I can't be swayed though, I assure you that I can. However, at the moment I want to keep it like it is.

We could just, you know, not keep them in the lap of luxury. I know this is dragging the thread off topic pretty quickly but a monarchy is morally disgusting and isn't necessarily cheaper or better than an elected head of state.

Full independence, even more so with a Tory government in power at Westminster.

Full independence. Border guards at Gretna as well if they get fancy uniforms like the Swiss Guard or beefeaters.

Yes, this. I'm disappointed that the SNP want to retain the monarchy but I'm convinced that post-independence a republican feeling will develop very, very quickly.

Full independence. Mainly to have our own Foreign Policy so we don't have to send any troops to get slaughtered for f**k all.

Border patrols and machine guns anywhere near Gretna would be an added bonus.

Caldwell is actually a great centre half however consistency can be an issue for him, technically his distribution of the ball for a defender is as good as Pique or Puyol.

If the people of Scotland vote for independence, Westminster will be permanently Tory, not that that will matter up here.

I could be swayed towards Devo Max but never full independence without knowing what currency we'd be using, what our credit rating would be( because a new set-up is gonna need plenty credit) and the bigger picture of trade. If we could be like Norway and Switzerland without the burden of Brussels, then again, I'd mull it over.

It will all depend on the questions and how many there are, I can't see independence happening though.

Full independence, but I could be swayed towards devo-max if someone can explain why London wants to hold on to Scotland. If they have to subsidise us as much as they claim you'd think they'd be rushing to get us off the books.
We must remember that in time of war what is said on the enemy's side of the front is always propaganda and what is said on our side of the front is truth and righteousness, the cause of humanity and a crusade for peace.

I am not one of those who in expressing opinions confine themselves to facts.

Full independence.

I'd hate to see us (Scotland) dragged into another unnecessary middle east war, when the next war-mongering president takes over in the US.

Also completely pissed off wish some old Etonian asshole, who has a mandate in Scotland for f**k-all, trying to tell us what the terms of the referendum will be and when it should take place.

I've said devo-max but I'd caveat that by saying it would have to be genuinely full fiscal autonomy rather than just "more tax powers". If it's not real devo-max then I'm a yes to indy.

I need to say this – you shouldn't trust any government, actually including this one. You should not trust government – full stop. The natural inclination of government is to hoard power and information; to accrue power to itself in the name of the public good.

I'm up for anything that can be shown to improve Scotland's lot, particularly for the bottom 25% that have been screwed by the decline of manufacturing.

Devo-max feels like the best route to me. Tax-raising powers so we manage our own budget and put an end to the England subsidy lie. Scotland-England relations will get even worse otherwise. However, that's conditional on us getting c. 90% of the oil revenues (and 10% of the debt if that needs split).

Independence - I like the principle of it, but it feels to me like we end up surrendering economic control compared to devo-max. If we go Euro, we end up with European technocrats telling us what we can and can't do with our budget. If we stay pound, Bank of England has even less need to care about what's happening in Scotland than they do currently.

Is it still the plan to have a referendum in principle and then a referendum after the negotiations (if the first vote was for independence)?

Remain in the union, though as I've previously discussed on P&B you will never get a balanced result on any matter that involves 'the English' in any way. :)
