Can anyone recommend one which actually works? Tried one, but it's only downloading sounds and not images.

I'd recommend tubemate if via phone. Can download different resolutions and just the plain sound as mp3 if you're looking for the obscure music choice.

Download Helper for Firefox is what i use, does a lot more than just Youtube as well. I think there is a version for Chrome too.

'Real Player' is excellent.

I use google chrome and it gives you a button above any you tube video you are watching you just click to download.

Do you have a safe link to that.. There seems to be a few with same name. And i'm not too keen on downloading apps to my phone that are not on the andriod market

I have recently come across one called "Orbit" which will even download videos which are protected against copying, eg the STV archives on YouTube. It's a free-standing programme for Windows and is a bit fiddly to begin with but it's worth all the effort in the end.
