Looking at the bbc site and the official attendance was 3,102

Seriously it looked a lot more than that. I thought Aberdeen had a decent support down too - what does that stand hold for away support 1100? If so then we must have taken down 700. No way Queen of the South only had 2400.

If we took 700 down to Dumfries on a Tuesday night that is a fine, fine effort.

Aberdonians, and with some degree of purpose and right on their side, have absolute contempt for Glasgow. There is a side of Aberdonians who, let's be absolutely honest about this, feel so superior to Glasgow that you could measure it by the yard;

Is that you trying to say that we over run you in the 2nd half because you had so many out with injury.
It was not a good result it was a lucky result Queens were by far the better side but just did not have that bit of luck you need in the cup.
Considine gets his revenge i can see it now how he has waited 4 years to score the winner against Queens
think if i had the choice of wining tonight or the cup semi the cup semi would win every time.
Best of luck in the next round think most of your luck will have gone tonight.

aye aye, wheres the pie?

In the time it took you to read this, John Hewitt had already scored the Scottish Cup's fastest goal.

Theres no real answer to that, as its segregated differently for different games. Away support was, officially, 614. The home support had about the same area of the stand, but it was pretty much full. At a guess, maybe 150-200 more home fans in that stand.

As others have said, felt we deserved to get to extra time after our performance in the second half. Carmicheal and Clark (who, like SD, I would have hooked at half time) were both outstanding and really caused them problems. I think a big part of the game changing was that our defence seemed to push up a bit and play a higher line, and it dropped back near the end again which is why we struggled and ultimately conceded.

Proud of the teams efforts though and hopefully we can kick on in the league now, although the next 3 games could well see us marrooned.

It's strange because I was thinking this same as were a lot of people round about me!
Whatever Gus said to him at half time worked.

So if there were about 1,400 in that stand, there were 1,700 in the rest of the ground? (Terracing behind the goal, main stand, enclosure etc.) Did that look about right?
ETA The away section wouldn't be any more than 1,100. I understand it is usually 900.

I would probably have said there were more, but terracing is incredibly hard to judge.

With the one and half empty sections cordoned off, the away end would have been far closer to 900 than 1100. From the pic taken just before kick off, I reckoned about 150 odd empty seats in the away end.

Yes, the terracing behind the goal has an official capacity of about 2,900. Although when we played Rangers in 1976, the official crowd was 18,700, meaning there were between 7,000 and 8,000 on that terracing alone. And it hasn't really changed since then.
It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but nobody died. Not saying there were no injuries because there were one or two head knocks. ;)

Not sure what you were watching but we were 4-4-2 from the first minute to the last as far as I could see. McGuffie was right back and Allan Reid on the left.

The way Queens lined up at the start (from the kick-off) it looked more a 3-5-2 to me. I wrote that formation certainly on the team sheet with McGuffie operating as a right sided centre half with Alan Reid pushed that bit further up into a left wing-back position. But granted when needs must he dropped back from time-to-time meaning it was 4-4-2 effective. A few times I've seen Queen's this season they seem to have a floating formation which flucuates between 4-3-3 and 4-5-1.

Anyway moving on to the game. Felt really sorry for Queen's, what a kick in the teeth at the end to concede barely right on stoppage time.
Aberdeen were on top the first half, could have been 2 or 3-0 nil up but the second half saw Queens gave it a real good go.
From the angle I had silly penalty to give away by Mawene and from there on it was game on.
Clark was a real menace whilst young Carmichael in flashes seems to show brilliance everytime I see him.
Aberdeen showed a bit resilience at the end I thought digging out a victory. If QoS can show that level of commitment between now and April they will be ok.
Really enjoyable game as a neutral I thought.

Fair enough, everyone else seems to think differently to me (nothing new there then!). The fact Reid was in the middle rather than McGuffie would certainly imply you were right but it never crossed my mind it was anything other than a flat four right through and I remember commenting early on it was a notable difference from the first game. I thought McGuffie was at right back and Alan Reid on the left. If he was a wing back then he played it very deep. I thought it was exactly how we lined up on Saturday at Ayr (which was definitely a 4-4-2) with Craig Reid in as a straight switch for Potter (cup tied) and obviously Clark for Reilly.

Both ends of the Queen of the South the support was full, hence why i'm questioning the attendance figure.

The low figure is probably in no doubt caused by the turnstyle farce before the game. I think its safe to assume there was 4000+ at the game last night.

As for the turnstyle farce, you couldn't make it up. We have all of them open for league games, who decided this wouldn't be necessary for our biggest crowd of the season? Then at the end the gate for exiting the Portland Drive end was shut causing a bottleneck at the new stand. Major own goal by the club.

I don't think it was because the gate was shut, I think it was purely the fact they allow people from the East stand to walk back across the terracing to exit next to the Main stand. It causes a bottle neck every home match even with lower crowds. It was just more apparent last night. If they made people leaving the East stand exit via the East stand this problem would easily be averted. But that would to much of a good idea. Just like opening a couple more turnstyles last night would have been.

The Portland road gate was shut and could have caused a crushing hazard as everyone piled out at the end of the game. And only having one gate open before the game for the biggest gate of the season what are the board etc thinking of!
Come on Queens let's try and get the simple things right, these small matters before and after the game were a shambles thank goodness Gus and his team performed brilliantly and gave the supporters something to be proud of on the park if not off it!!!

Yeh it was madness. I don't know if they were short of change for the other gates at the start of the match.

I was held up and only arrived at the back of the queue at around 7:25pm. However, after getting nowhere for three or four minutes, I walked to the gate at the East Stand and got in straight away. It was a bit of a shambles and with a bit of organisation could have been averted.

Watching the highlights i couldn't help but think maybe Robinson could have come out & punched away the Aberdeen equaliser.
