Simple question seeing as there are all sorts of polarised opinions on the match threads.

Quote

A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play.

“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent

Any player who lunges at an opponent when challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent, is guilty of serious foul play

Definitely not excessive force, not even a yellow card.

Chris Hoy has got to be the worst referee in England. Useless arrogant nob as proved in the QPR-Chelsea and Stoke-Spurs games. He's totally spoiled this Cup game as well.

Only worse decision i've seen this season is the sending off of Rodman in the Merseyside derby. Football is becoming a fairies game.

100% red card. Dangerous play, the fact he gets the ball is irrelevant.

Red card. It doesn't say anything in the laws of violent conduct about winning the ball.

Very clear red card.

Run that challenge another 9 times and Nani comes out of that with a fcuked leg more than a few times. He did well to jump out of the way of it.

Nani is a skinny little nancy boy - he'd jump out the way of a tackle from samaras

It's a red card for me as you could argue the challenge can be counted as serious foul play based on the description given in the laws of the game. For me it would be classed under "endangering the safety of the opponent" or "lunging at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent.".

Do you think Inverness can handle the pressure of being top? I think not. Inverness will not be able to handle it.

I think it's a yellow but understand why the ref went for red. Type of tackle Scholes got away with for years.

So, no then

I think the scissor motion off the ground was enough to endanger Nani, not to mention the studs up. It was a clear red card, the fact that Nani pulled out for his own safety doesn't change that. Kompany didn't bother complaining.

Walking towards the tunnel  He didn't complain to the referee, he knew he deserved to go. Greeting to the fourth official or more likely his manager isn't really complaining.

What would the point in complaining be? Even someone as incompetent as Foy wouldnt change their minds. He's too arrogant ever to admit a mistake anyway

Two footed, studs up, off the ground - how is there any question of it being a red card?

Definite red card, and anyone who thinks otherwise should be shot!
The problem we have in Britain is that most people don't even know the laws of the game! Even idiot Andy Townsend who was summarising and the guys in the studio called it wrong.
The second a player takes both feet off the ground to make a tackle, he is no longer in control of his movement. A red card every day and every match of the season!!!

No, it wasn't even a foul.
