And the reason why he's played in more games than any other player for us this season. Player of the year for me so far, Bachirou and Tidser haven't played enough to truly deserve it.

You could well be right that just based on the effort put in for the team over the season so far, he deserves POTY so far, but nobody can deny that Tidser and Bachirou are superior footballers.

The other thing about Saturday was that it was not really O'Brians sort of pitch - heavy, cut up and bobbly. It does not suit a winger trying to beat his man through ball skills.

For what its worth, I think we will line up on Saturday

Stewart
Evans Graham Smyth O'Ware
Di Giacomo Bachirou Tidser O'Brien
Campbell MacDonald

Subs: Weatherson McGeouch Jackson Fitzharris McGinlay

Young just got a contract to the end of the season too, didn't he. :(

First game he starts after that he's beyond rubbish at right back and then gets injured. These Young brothers are a pair of wage robbing charlatans.

Not to mention 5 goals this season. For a left mid ( who is beginning to move into a more attacking midfield role) is very good!
Greenock Morton and PEC Zwolle. Blue and White Hoops United.

O'Brien has impressed me as the season has gone on. I was never a big fan of his, but he has shown me a thing or two.

He's not our POTY though. Tidser and Bachirou have been proven to be absolutely vital to the side and have thus earned the title.

We've kept three clean sheets this season, two of which were against Partick, who are shite. We will almost certainly concede.

Indeed, better to go all out 'devil bugger the hindmost' and try and score more than them - as slim a chance as that is.

I still think Davidson moving into the midfield will help us slightly - would like to see another deep lying midfielder in there as well if Baird is going to sit behind the strikers, but Hammill can't tackle and Walker is having a 'mare just now.

What does a scanner see? he asked himself. I mean, really see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does a passive infrared scanner like they used to use or a cube-type holo-scanner like they use these days, the latest thing, see into me—into us—clearly or darkly? I hope it does, he thought, see clearly, because I can’t any longer these days see into myself. I see only murk. Murk outside; murk inside. I hope, for everyone’s sake, the scanners do better. Because, he thought, if the scanner sees only darkly, the way I myself do, then we are cursed, cursed again and like we have been continually, and we’ll wind up dead this way, knowing very little and getting that little fragment wrong too.

I get this strange sense of random optimism from time to time and if you're anything like me it's a 4-0 home win,

I'm optimisitic about this game too. For all Morton's domination in the second half on saturday they didnt create anything like the chances we did in the first half. I see more of that at Cappielow, with no second half capitulation.

Yes, I mean, we only took the chances we needed to and won the game. I for one was gutted.

You mean one was a dubious gift from the ref. You dont mention the three dubious offside goals chalked off either.

^^^ sobbing uncontrollably

Having seen the replay the foul is as obvious and blatant as it was at the time. All three of your 'goals' were clearly offside, flagged in time so that your tap ins were irrelevant anyway. Still, I'd have thought that after 125 years of complete and utter failure at the national level you'd have taken your routine exit to a big team with a bit more dignity.

Strange sarcastic and bombastic replies because the fact that Raith created more chances than Morton was stated. I think if you're looking for issues that need dealt with they're a bit closer to home...

That wasn't the issue at all, but nice try. It was that you felt that Raith creating more chances - while losing - was in any way relevant to discussion, which it's not.

And then, having did a little testing on the issue, your rage about a series of correct refereeing decisions unfolded for all to see. Better luck next year I guess.

First, my prediction regarding the game at Cappielow was entirely relevant to this thread. Its title is Morton Vs Raith Rovers. Whether or not it is relevant to you is irrelevant.

Second, someone as lacking in objectivity as you would be incapable of recognising the fact that Raith created more chances than Morton in the cup tie.

Third, your psychic abilities are bogus - I made no indication whatsoever about my emotional state. Far from raging I was merely reflecting that if the officials had been as benevolent to us in awarding us the three goals disallowed for offside as they had been to Morton in awarding a penalty for a foul committed outside the penalty area we would have won comfortably. That is what I base my confidence for saturday on.

The basis for this prediction is laughable and irrelevant to Saturday's events. Unlucky.

Uh huh, I won't be taking any lectures on objectivity from someone who has claimed the blatant penalty - as shown by the highlights - was a 'dubious gift from the ref'. Mostly because it makes you a hypocrite, and a permaraging one at that.

I suggest you check the highlights before embarrassing yourself with these tear-stained claims.

You can't see all 3 offside goals clearly in the highlights but you can see 2 and they definitely look offside. So you can't really claim for them. You might be able to make a claim for the 3rd one where Baird hit the post first but even then it's unlikely it was dubious either. As for the Morton penalty that's fair enough but it looked at least on the line and that's still a penalty. I'd look at poor reading of the line and a daft foul for Morton's winner before blaming the ref or bad luck but I accept there was little else in it except one piece of quality from MacDonald and Campbell which won it IMO.

Interesting game ahead this weekend but I think Morton could well line up the way we finished on Saturday there. Jackson and Campbell didn't work well this week and MacDonald looked sharp, while Weatherson's distribution was excellent from the back.

If we can avoid giving away any more silly penalties, Morton to win by a goal again this week.

Having seen both of these teams its a nailed on home win. the question is how long will raith hold out? normally they get knackered by 70 minutes so it may require a patient approach from the home side here.

2-0 :)
Dundee United are Shite.

I think if Baird's shot that hit the post had gone in, the goal might have stood as you could argue that Walker was not interfering with play but as soon as it rebounded to him he was in play and therefore offside.

As for the team on Saturday, we will probably start with the same team as finished last week except that if Evans is fit, he will probably slot into the right back slot with Peter on the bench. Its a shame as he had a big influence on the game on Saturday but also, I think he picked up a knock which might put him out anyway.

Might have stood? It was a rasper from 20 yards and the 'keeper was beaten, no danger it wouldn't have stood.

I'd call that our big slice of luck for the day.

He hit the post with a cross-cum-shot earlier on in the game too.
Thinking of the chances we made on Saturday I'm a lot more optimistic at how the season is going to pan out if we stick with the 1st half formation. Morton are decent going forward but they looked extremely ropey at the back and they just couldn't handle Clarke and Casa at times.

I'm never confident about us going down to Cappielow though. I'd be content with a draw.

Walker was in an offside position when it was hit and in front of the keeper so there could be an argument that he was interfering with play and therefore offside. You can't see from the video when the linesman put his flag up!

You are right, it was a slice of luck but we were also lucky in the the last minute or so of time added when the ball was played across Stewart to a boy coming in at the far post who managed to scoop it the wrong side of the post.

Yeah it's not great. Although in the first half 2 of our back 4 were Young and Graham who are both guff so getting shot of at least one of them done us a favour in the 2nd half.

Your forwards are now indeed a handful. But ours are better. :D
