My laptop has decided to pack it in after a good few years . I've no idea on what I'm looking for in a new one but all I know is that it needs to be quick enough on the Internet and be able to run football
Manager without annoying delays and glitches. I also use iTunes so I dunno if this slows the computer down a lot or not? Like I said totally clueless!
Any pointers tech heads?

Saying what your budget is would be a good place to start.

Not really a lot of info there. What model of processor is it? There are hundreds of different types of dual core processors. 2GB of RAM isn't that much to run FM if you run anything more than one league in one nation at a time, especially if the operating system is Windows Vista or 7 which can be quite demanding on resources. And that's all before you take into account things like screen size and graphics (is the laptop capable of displaying FM at the required resolution) and Hard Drive space.

You're really pushing my knowledge to the limits here !
Say I wasn't using games on the laptop... Would this be decent enough for web surfing and iTunes ?
Not a lot of info I know but it's all I've really been given just now.

That looks pretty good value for £400. But it depends on what you want to with your laptop. That should play football manager, and be very good for watching movies, surfing web, running office programs, would struggle with high graphic demanding games like Call of Duty I think. Plenty of space if you download a lot of things. 6 Gb of RAM should me more than enough memory as well.

It'd be absolutely fine for browsing the internet and using iTunes - indeed, you could probably get a new netbook for less than £200 that would be fine for both of those, rather than a second-hand laptop.
In fact, here's one for £179.99 - here.

Cheers for that. I only play football manager once In a while really. It's more for net surfing and iTunes . Don't do any work on a laptop either.

I've been impressed with how well my old HP G60 has handled FM12.
Expected all sorts of problems but a parsing error aside, easily fixed, it's been great.

The only things you need concern yourself with on a laptop which isn't intended to be playing top games are the brand, having at least a dual-core processor and the capacity for more than two gigs of RAM. These days, that basically means just getting the cheapest one available. On the off chance you still have it in five years, RAM and hard disks are user-replaceable on modern laptops and cost absolutely nothing (4GB of RAM is currently £16, and most modern laptops will take 8GB).
Presently my local Sainsburys is doing 3GB, triple-core Acers for £300. This should be your baseline.

Bought an Acer Aspire 5250 from Comet in Early December for my son for £299. He uses it for the same things you want and said it does the job fine.
Comet were the cheapest at the time you may even get it cheaper at the moment.
