Not looking to join a league or anything, but I bowl with friends fairly regularly (usually three to four times per month). I'm not that bad, but do feel a little frustrated that I seem to have hit an improvement plateau and thus i'm keen to further improve my game, and enjoyment of it, by buying my own ball and bowling a hook.

I can comfortably bowl a 130-150 average most visits (usually over 5-10 games), and have a high score of 227

Any advice on a good (reactive) ball for someone in my position, as well as advice on where do to get a ball drilled (in and around the Glasgow area) and how to care for a ball, as well as any other tips would be most welcome!

Googling the above hasn't been overly helpful, and seemed to suggest the nearest place to get a ball drilled would be Kirkintilloch.

Cheers in advance

I haven't played seriously in well over a decade but played to a high level in my teens (european under 18s). You will probably have to go to kirkie to get your ball drilled as the number of proper ten pin concessions inside centres has dried up to practically zilch! Remember also that if you want to play with a significant hook you should get your ball 'fingertipped' with inserts. I always played with Brunswick balls back in the day.

Edited to add: had a look on the kirkie based website, they seem to have a decent range and prices are pretty reasonable

In saying that. The 10 pin bowling is the only licensed premises in Airdrie I've not been in. So I'll be making a point of dropping in over the holidays.

It's only so I can keep my wall chart up to date. It's not like I'm a professional 10 pin bowler, I'm not that cool. I couldn't get away with that wee glove and shoe combo you all have.........Oh and the wee bag with the zip for your special ball. I'm in awe of you Kingpin.

Cheers fonzie, that means a lot, it really does, I can't help but look up to a person who has been to the masons arms, caritas club AND the airdrie workmens! But don't put yourself down, I can never be as cool as a man who boasts about ml6 drinking AND slags others for liking things he doesn't.... re-spect!

My wee brother plays for Scotland and is going to the States on a bowling scholarship in the summer, I'll show him your post at some point and see what he says.

EDIT: And I quote "A good starter reactive ball is a Scout Reactive. The best ball driller is based in Dundee but can travel, I would recommend him." Fire me a PM and I'll send you his number if you wish.
