I see Ferguson has rotated his goalkeeper, not for the 1st time this season. Which is pretty unusual as he normally only switched them for league cup games.

Do you think this is a sign he hasn't total confidence in De Gea?

Every time I've seen him play I've never though he's been particularly impressive when you consider the hype & price tag. On the other hand I have been impressed with Lindegaard, he actually looks to have the built of a goalkeeper! And more accomplish.

De Gea might well turn out to be a cracking keeper, but for now I'd have Lindegaard as No.1

EDIT: added a poll, much easier

De Gea.
It's getting kind of hard to believe things are going to get better. I've been drowning too long to believe that the tide is going to turn. And I've been living too hard to believe things are going to get easier now. I'm still trying to shake off the pain from the lessons I've learned. And if I see Van Helsing, I swear to the lord I will slay him. AHA HA HA. He take you from me but I swear I won't let it be so. AHA HA HA. Blood, will run done his face, when he is decapitated AH! His head on my mantle is how I will let this world know...how much I love you.

It depends what you want from a goalkeeper, De Gea is the 'better' keeper, he will win Man United points single-handedly with some unbelievable saves but he will also cost his team in valuable games whilst he is still learning.

Lindegaard is the exact opposite, a decent, very steady keeper will do all that is expected of him, and will rarely let the team down but he can't produce the same type of magic that De Gea can.

Lindegaard played against us in Europe last season and he looked average at best in both ties. Couldn't believe he got a move to United! Fair play to him though he's done ok.

I think Lindegaard is the better shot stopper and De Gea is the better sweeper of the two.

However neither are good enough to be Man Utd number 1.

They are like a Tesco value Casillas and Valdes

Tough question. De Gea will go on to be a world class keeper.

Couple of strange comments. Realistically, who is good enough to be Man Utd number one? Amos?

The topic question states who should be number one now and for me it's Linde. He looks a far more solid keeper and if it was purely based on the short term then he wpuld be number one imo. Its not all about the short term and with more and more game time at the top level De Gea could well be a world class keeper.

It's strange but Spanish keepers never really fill me with too much confidence. Great sweepers and outstanding distribution though.

The four main Spanish keepers all seem to have the same problem: crosses/corners, seems rather odd.

Not quite. Most goalkeepers nowadays seem to enjoy the punch/flap style because it cuts down the risk of being dropped, but a lot of the time the get very little distance. Don't get me wrong a decent punch is great because it sets up and instant counter-attack if it falls right.

Really don't understand the bad press De Gea gets. He's made some wonderful saves so far in a United shirt. He's playing behind a defence who have barely been able to put out the same starting four all season and as a unit have conceded 15 in 17 games in the league. Take away the six to Man City and the game he didn't start tonight that's 9 in 16. Sorry if I'm wrong but i can't remember Lindegaard starting another league game this season.

He's not doing too badly as a 21 year old in a foreign league. Yes he's had his mistakes but mostly in games United have won anyway. He will be a world class keeper and SAF will stick by him.

Lindegaard has started 3 league games this season, yet to concede a goal. And another 2 games in the Champions League only conceding 1 goal

No.

I think he's making sure de Gea doesn't rest on his laurels, and also making sure that Lindegaard feels involved.

Hate this phrase, every goalie should be a good shot stopper. The essentials for being a good keeper are communication and concentration when you don't have the ball and good handling and distribution when you do.

Can't agree with that, yes every keeper should be a good shot stopper but every striker should have good finishing, every defender a good tackler, wingers good crossing etc doesn't mean that these attributes can't be compared.

Right now I would say lindegaard is more solid keeper. I can't see past de gea eventually leaving him for dust in the coming years.

I agree with this, I've said it before on here that De Gea gets overly scrutinised for some reason. I think he's been very good so far, he's made 2 or 3 mistakes, but which goalie hasn't ? Even the likes of Cech and Reina have made howlers recently but people seem to gloss over those.

Lindegaard is a solid back up keeper, his goals against record this season is good, but that's as much down to the opposition than anything else, he's generally only played against weaker sides.
