I was down by the Edinburgh Leisure/Boroughmuir rugby ground and was wondering why its not also used by an East of Scotland league team? Any Edinburgh teams that were interested in Scottish Cup entry would surely be pretty close to being accepted if they played there? Its not far from Lothian Thistle Hutchy Vale catchment area

It's got good facilities but there's no football team associated to it, that egg ball ground probably as all the dibs, so if a football team was to play there it would have to come 2nd to egg ball, I could be wrong though?

Not wrong Grim. The grass park and facilities are excellent, but Boroughmuir are big boys in rugby and they'll never play second fiddle to a football team.
We played our pre-seasons at Meggetland. The pitch in front of the smaller stand is probably 1G and is surrounded on four sides by high wire fences. City played friendlies on the 3G pitch behind that, but it has no cover – never mind seats – and the players have to walk about 100 yards to get there.
Good ground, but no hope at all of Scottish Cup approval. And it has a wilderness behind it. I can say from experience it is no fun to get a stray match ball from there on a wet day.

Used to play school football at Meggetland 40 years ago, long before all the houses were built there. Not sure but there must have been about 15 pitches maybe even more there at the time. How many more pitches like that have been lost over the past few years? Think there is only Saughton left with multi parks for kids football in Edinburgh now although I`m not sure of the facilities available in other areas of the city.

Boroughmuir High School do play football and have teams at the various age sections and have done so for a number of years but is known for being more associated with Rugby.
I know in the 80's you were forced to play rugby for the first two years and then allowed to go to the dark side and play football in 3rd year, I'm not aware if these rules still apply.
Regarding Meggatland I believe Boroughmuir ladies use this facility on a regular basis at all levels and play on the 3g. The grass pitch at the back is a decent pitch and level but unsure if the school or amateur teams play there either on a Saturday or a Sunday but could easily be roped off if an EOS side wishes to use it, The bar facilities at the rugby club are pretty good and a decent pint. I suppose this really depends if Boroughmuir Rugby Club have a game on as I doubt they would be able to cater for these round ball chappies.
PS Merry Xmas to all users

Good to see so many old folk can now use the internet! Surely this thread could apply to any ground not used for football. Raeburn place, myreside, city park, the pennypit.
I'm all for clubs having their own identity, but surely the more sustainable model is the way forward and groundshare may need to be part of that.

Hey, less of the old. Whether you like or not but I think the plastic pitch is the future, plus look at the revenue it can provide a club.

Junior team Edinburgh United used it for a couple of games last season when Paties Road was out of action.

The pitch is 4g and we(Lothian) train on it on a Tuesday night, great surface but I don't think any team would use it full time !
