Who does everyone fancy for the Worlds this year? I usually have a sneaky £5 each way on an outsider before it all kicks off. Might put this on Rand this year.

Looking at the draw it seems there won't be any real heavyweight games until the quarters.

Not seen any prices at the minute. Tell me, i'd guess Taylor is somewhere around 6/5 and the next favourite being around 7/2 (Lewis perhaps?). Would these prices be similar play head to head at some stage of the tournament?

Might have a few quid on James Richardson against Barney, he's played well on the floor and will fancy his chances. Wes Newton look a good each way bet aswell.
Leigh Griffiths: "I've got faith in my ability and big Gary's as well, and as soon as he gave me the through-ball there was only one place it was going and that was the back of the net."

James McPake: "We'll fight for one another and we'll die for one another on that park and I think that showed today,"

I find it difficult to back players who have never played on tv. Its a total different ball game playing on the floor in an empty room in Crawley or Wigan for peanuts, in comparison to playing on live tv in front of big crowds and for big money. Not saying it won't happen right enough, Barney can be fragile...

Huybrechts to beat Dolan at 6/5 is the bet of the first round. Be quick though.

I'm going to do it day by day I think, maybe see how far I can take a fiver betting on matches or something.

In the outright betting I think there's value in Wade, Lewis and Anderson. Their odds are all long enough IMO, and while each of them could lose one off games I think if any of the three of them hit form they can't be stopped unless it's by each other or Taylor. Wade and Lewis in particular could be the way to go as they don't need to go through Taylor until the final.

The "to win quarter final x" betting could be worth a look if people like outsiders. Anderson's quarter could be the best shout given his (at times) bizarre performances. Beaton could be a shout in that market at 25/1, he should pump Caris in the first round and he's on course for Whitlock in the second, who has been out with an injured leg for a while.

I'll almost certainly leave the outrights though and just stick to individual matches, but that's the way I see the betting.

As we draw closer to the event my gut feeling is Adrian Lewis is going to retain the title. I had a bet on him and Anderson at the start of the tournament last year basically on gut instinct although back then Lewis was about 20's and Ando 12's or something both are now a lot shorter so there may not be great value. 8/1 though for Lewis on the other side of the draw from Taylor is probably worth a punt.

For outsiders you are guarenteed a run with Webster and Newton who are consistently going deep into tournaments and these two have a major in them.

I would have backed Richardson against Barney before the Players Champs but I seen enough scoring power from Barney to make me think he could do OK at the World's if he can brush up on the rest of his game.

I would agree with MTJ in that Huybrechts to beat Dolan at odds against should be snapped up ASAP and I would say the same regarding Mark Hylton against van der Voort. The big Dutchman has been stinking in the last two TV tournaments and Hylton is a player I rate very highly as he proved against Taylor at the Matchplay the big stage doesn't bother him he put in a great performance there and had an impressive Grand Prix beating Whitlock on route to the Quarters. Add in a Quarter Final appearance at the UK Open and a run to the last 16 at Allly Pally last year I can't see past him in this tie.

Peter Wright 4/5 against Jelle Klaasen is another one that sticks out like a sore thumb to me in the first round. Wright was highly impressive in the Players Championships last weekend and got to the last 16 at Ally Pally last year and has shot up the rankings in the last year or so whilst Klaasen is on the decline. Wright earned about three times as much as Klaasen on the tour in the last year which highlights the contrast in form of both. Wright should win this as Klaasen has been throwing a bag of nails for ages although there's no doubt his mercurial talent is always a worry as he can turn it on at any stage (he is an ex BDO World Champion after all!) but consistency should win the day here.

My first bet will be tomorrow on the prelim game with Paul Barham at 4/5 against Scott MacKenzie. It's a short format so I'm a little wary but I'm going to batter on £50 regardless. From what I've read elsewhere Mackenzie won the Greater China qualifier with an average of 69! which anyone worth their salt should be mopping up with ease regardless of the short format. Barham qualified as the runner up in the PDC Youth Your Order of Merit which is an achievement in itself as the quality these days is superb even at that level he finished only behind Michael van Gerwen and ahead of top up and coming players who have already graced the TV stage (Shaun Griffiths,Joe Cullen,Reece Robinson and Michael Smith will make his TV debut against Co Stompe this year as well!). These kids are going out in 11-18 darts pretty regularly on the tour and if Barham can turn up with anything in that range it should be too much I would have thought (Michael Smith hit a 9 darter earlier in the year!). As someone mentions above though playing on the biggest stage of them all is a different world from the floor events or youth tour but if the young man can hold his nerve and play something resembling his natural game it should be fine.

I agree with pretty much all of what Neilly has said. Another I quite fancy is Steve Farmer to beat Ronnie Baxter at 9/4. Farmer's taken some decent scalps on the the stage before and I can't help but feel Baxter is on the way down.

Liking Rand to beat Smith at 6/5 and Henderson as well to beat Part at 6/4, can't see him playing anywhere near as bad as he did against Pipe, the pace of the game will suit him tenfold in comparison. Part is unbelieveably overrated for me and since his last win in 2008 he has done nothing but pile on the weight and continually get sent packing in the early rounds on the tv.

I fancy Lewis to come flying out tonight and put a marker down so I think that is a sensible bet. Only one for me tonight is Barham as mentioned above.

Painter/Hamilton double tonight doubles your money.

Been a bit of a disaster so far with Barham and never managed to getting Huybrechts on so here's hoping.

Hard one to call Osborne/MVG to be honest will stay away from it although if forced I would probably pick MVG as Osborne has been rank for a while now.

What's the prce of Lloyd tonight?

If he's not greatly priced I'll be putting my winnings from last night on Rand tomorrow I think.
