Just curious about this. I personally don't bet on sporting events online, as I find it much easier to type £20 into a box and click OK than I do to hand over £20 out of my wallet. So basically, because I lack self-control, I don't trust myself to have an online bookies' account :D

Plus it means I can get the best odds from the 4 bookies near me so I'm not just tied to the one company.

What does everyone else do? When I start earning more I might allow myself to open an online account: who are you with online, and are you glad you picked them?

Mostly online for me. I have several online accounts and use oddschecker to get the best odds for non-horse-racing events and bet365 for the horses.

There are 2 bookies within a minutes walk of Paisley Driving Test centre so if I've got someone out on test I'll pop into either of them for a quick flutter to pass the time.
The best thing about being dead is you no longer have to say "I wish I were dead".

The best thing about being alive is you can still say "I wish I were dead".

Usually bet365. You're right, it's very easy to forget yourself when you're betting with money that you can't see.

Always online. Generally Wm Hills, but sometimes Bet365 or Ladbrokes if there is a massive difference in odds.

Always in the shop for me. If I were to do it online I could see myself being bankrupt in a few hours!!!

Also, online, there are to many events available to bet on, boy from my work thought it would be a good idea for him and a few mates to set up an online account to try and win their spending money for their holidays. 4 of them put £20 each in to get them started. They were doing quite well, up to £600 and then decided to bet the LOT on a basketball game :o And yes, they lost! Muppets

Always in the bookies for me, for Nacho's reasons. It's so much harder to part with physical, tangible money than it is on a computer screen.
Plus, it's nice to be wandering down the road, nip into the bookies, have a wee flutter and walk out £30 richer, all within 10 minutes! You just don't get that thrill online.

Use betfair a lot as you can "lay" teams you dont fancy as well as back and you generally get better odds.

Do a bit of spread betting also but higher risks involved.

Same here, although tonight I did put all the money in my Betfair account on Albion Rovers to beat East Fife, I was THAT certain. I have never in my life backed a team that's been beaten 6-0 at home!
There's no point in getting better odds if it's a loser.

It depends what sort of mood I'm in. Use bet365 for football as it allows me to bet on different european leagues and Workington reds in the uni-bond premier league. Quite handy for bumping up accu's. Nothing beats the thrill of collecting cash in person though and having £150 in your hand instead of just having it transfered to your bank account

Almost exclusively online betting for me. I have 7 or 8 accounts, most of which i leave with balances of zero until im ready to bet. At that point I transfer the money over from my card into the account. For football betting I mainly use Premierbet, Gamebookers, Bet365 or Betfair. Like someone said earlier, I check on Oddschecker and basically go where the odds are best.

Main reason for betting online is better odds and also the convenience. I do admit you have to be quite disciplined so as not to go chasing losses but luckily I am.

Always the local William Hills. Like others I would also be bankrupt within a couple of hours if had an online account.

Expekt. Simple to use sports betting but also very good poker software, and there are plenty of good Scandinavian players to test yourself against. :)

Thought Insight had made a comeback until I saw the start date of the thread.

To answer the question:both. I put my coupon on of a Saturday in an over-the-counter bookies, but I also have a PaddyPower.com account, I like them as they do money-back specials and "strange" bets.

For example I placed an insurance bet on England to win the World Cup this summer, but because they went out on penalties, and PP were refunding all losing singles placed befoe the tournament started on teams that lost on penalties, I got my dosh back, as would anyone who bet on Argentina, Switzerland etc.

I also got a cracking price on Dudek to save a penalty at any point during the 2005 CL final. Most bookies would say only 90 minutes, but this included penalty shootouts.

I'm currently thinking of having a punt on the first commentary cliche used during the Ryder Cup tomorrow
Even men with steel hearts love to see a dog on the pitch.

Good lord Biscuits I hope you don't bet to much or only play there Vegas casino. Skybet offers the worst prices on horses and football imho. You also very rarely can get a early price on a horse. Ditch that a/c now fella

I personally do most mine online as I hate smelling like an ashtray when I go to my local bookmakers (In a pub I can tolerate the smell).

I have online a/c's with Bet365, Blue Sq, Betfair (although not a fan of this site, as i hate decimal odds, although very popular with most), Ladbrokes, William hill and Paddy Power. Plenty of other decent online sites. I like to bet on horses, so will often trowl the net for the best price. If you bet on alot of singles you are a fool to only have 1 a/c.

I must admit, although i do most my betting on line (bet everyday) I do enjoy going to the bookies more. It's lovely when you get a big winner and have it all paid in cash. Rather then transfering the money straight to your bank a/c when you win online.

I've got a hills account which I started about 3 years ago with a £20 deposit, in those 3 years i have never had to deposit any more money in it and I've maybe lifted about £500 from it, at the moment it has £31 in it.
