Full credit to City who deserved their win. The only team who looked like winning it really.
Hugely disappointing from Welfare, great start, then fell apart for the next 70 odd minutes. Just picked up again in the last 10. Thought it had gone to extra time with Darren Walker's header right at the end though.
The referee totally spoiled the game for me, didn't let it flow, was inconsistent with his decisions, and far too card happy. Thought Mikey Bruce's red card was slightly on the harsh side, although he did have the studs up a bit and can at least see where that one came from. The challenge that he decided the City number 10 (Torrance?) deserved a second yellow card for... well I think he had totally lost the plot by then, never a booking never mind a sending off. Thankfully the officiating didn't change the outcome, as City were the better team regardless.
Strange setup and performance from Welfare but well done to City, good luck against Berwick in the City Cup.
Bloody hell CtH, that's a more unbiased report than I was gonna do & I was there in the neutral camp.
Our park is a brilliant Final venue & there was a good crowd (453) to watch a great final.
Welfare started the game on fire, quick passing & went through the City defence like a hot knife through butter! A great goal as well, I was thinking this could be a 14 niller but those thoughts soon diminished as City dominated midfield & Welfare struggled to get/keep the ball. City started to make chances & the Welfare goalie was made to make a few great saves & then as I'm singing the goalie praises he drops the ball at the feet of Ross who couldn't miss, he got another tap in to make it 2-1 at 1/2 time, mind you it could have been a lot different had the one gone in that hit the post & bounced away. I think the red card was very harsh for the Welfare lad, I'd have said yellow at most but ref gave a straight red. Welfare carried on pressing but not a lot for the City keeper to do & Ross got his hat-trick, then another strange ref decision when he gave a 2nd yellow for what looked like an innocuous challenge to me by the City lad? So it's evened up again player-wise & Welfare are throwing everything at City as you'd expect, a free-kick just outside the City box brought out a great save from the keeper & the corner from it almost ended up as a goal for City, as they quickly got the ball away & the Welfare who had put most of their players up for the corner struggled to challenge the City attack & it was City's turn to hit the post, lady luck appeared to be with the Welfare & another attack lead to a corner with the Welfare goalie going up & almost scoring but all to no avail, the ball did eventually end up in the City goal but the ref/lino gave it a foul on the keeper & disallowed what would have been a fantastic comeback for the Welfare but it was not to be. I felt sorry for the Welfare lads but City shaded it & I thought the result was fair in the end.
Well done to City & Welfare for the entertaining match of the Sunday.
