Sky sports news reporting their chairman has resigned and their parent company has just entered administration. Feel for the fans and hope the situation isn't as bad as it sounds.

Tough times for Portsmouth. In any other walk of life in the current climate the football club would have been wound up a long time ago. Don't think anybody would want to see another team go to the wall but you get the feeling something has to give. Hopefully a buyer can come soon.

they have funds for the short term, but need more funding for the medium term, which i can guess to allow the club to finish the season, just as things start to get put together and the club pick up the pieces from the multitude of bad management over the past few years another kick in the teeth

This club seems to be a magent for crooks, fraudsters and tax evaders with surnames that rhyme with Crooknapp.

I've never understood the wankfest over Redknapp.
His record is pretty shit for a manager, one FA Cup with Portsmouth, and he's taken virtually every club he's managed to it's knees.
Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton, and even West Ham, have all had financial troubles as soon as he walked away.
Yet he's one of the richest managers in England living in one of the most beautiful houses in the richest area in England and he has never managed any of the big clubs.
In my opinion he's as dodgy as f**k.
They tell me it's a minority, but I've been there, I know better.

Thats HMRC served a winding up petition against the club today. This time it could be terminal.

The story of the last 35 years at Portsmouth reminds me of Dundee and this post was written by a Portsmouth fan on a forum I am a member of.

Posted 05 January 2012 - 02:36 PM

So let us have a recap of our last 35 years:

1 John Deacon - 1977 - 88,

Builder from Southampton, helped save the club from extinction (this will be a recurring theme), stabalised us and got us back into the old First Division. At that time he also got heavily into the thriving British Basketball scene and created the best team in England which then deflected his interest in PFC. Stopped investment, got us relegated and sold out

2 Jim Gregory - 1988 - 94

Former Owner of QPR and car dealer. Bought the club off Decon, immediately pulled down the Fratton End but then became the ONLY owner to seriously pitch a new stadium for the club with the parkway scheme which sadly lost out (under the same Tory Government who scuppered a similar scheme for the Saints) to some Brent Geese! Basically they were used as an excuse as the local tories liked to run their hounds on the field where it was due to be built. Jim did, however give us the new Fratton End stand. Sadly for us his ill health then ended his personal involvement and in 1994 was replaced by:

3 Martin Gregory - 1994 -98

Jim's son, clueless, disinterested and a complete shambles after his father. His masterstroke was to bring in Terry Venables as chairman. 6 months later and after the club were all but bankrupt, Mr Venables left with a £600,000 'bonus' for his great efforts in helping to fold the club! Needless to say Venables is hated by all at PFC. Gregory then withddrew all funding and left the club on the brink. A televised match with Grimsby was the spark to his removal. Firstly, during the warm up, the players all wore t-shirts with hand written values of themselves on (Gregory was asset stripping at the time), then at half time the match was halted for 30 minutes whilst over 1000 Pompey got on the pitch and staged a sit in at the centre circle. It worked (all be it we went into Administration) but the stain that was Martin Gregory was gone.

4 Milan Mandaric - 1998 - 2006

I wont comment much here, but he did save us, got us promoted and then realised he was quids in. Sold the club for a very tidy profit and then disappeared from football altogether (well Leicester - much the same). His era did bring success and it is this that some Pompey are blinded by, athough unlike Southampton we never built his statue outside the ground. Now, of course, he is alledged (alongside the former next-England manager) of tax avoidance and will stand trial soon.

5 Sasha Gaydamac 2006 - 09

Brought the greatest set of players I have ever seen at Pompey and the FA Cup. Always denied he was a front for his (accused) gun running father but when dad was arrested his money ran out, his reign ultimately set the spiral into doom going.

6 Sulaiman Al Fayad 2009

The Arab Alan Sugar turned up, wore the shirt, forgot to pay and disappeared

7 Ali Al Faraj 2009

Or Ali Al Mirage as he was named. Doubt is still cast as to if he actually existed!

8 Balrham Chainrai 2009 - 10

Took over as he had secured the Al Faraj loan, he did not want the club so he put us into administration

9 2010 Administration

The club was 'run' by Andrew Andronikou who saw us to the Cup final and got more publicity than the club, he eventually brokered our administration before selling us to a new owner.

10 Balrham Chainrai 2010 - 11

This name is familiar. Managed to buy the club with all bar a fraction of the original debt and then promised to pay off ALL creidtors owed £2500 or less (he still has not!). He then managed to sell the club to new owners in the summer of 2011

11 CSI 2011

They came in the summer, made no short term promises but promised stability. 3 months later the owner is arrested for alledged banking fraud and CSI go into administration. The new Administrator? Yep Andrew Andronikou!

12 ??????

We are expecting new owners any day now

With our record of local builder, car sales, alledged tax avoider, alledged gun runner, alledged non-existent people, a man who managed to sell the club by wiping its debts and buy it back for a fraction of those and finally an alledged bank fraud person, you will be with me in being sceptical as to who these people might be.

Anyone fancy a sweep on how long before it goes belly up??

They aren't foreign? Unless that's a satirical comment about their ownership?

More to do with their agent of choice. No surprise to see two of the Willie Mckay teams (Portsmouth and Rangers) on the verge of being wound up.

Redknapp's an excellent coach. Not sure how anyone can dispute this. And despite him being dodgy as hell, I quite like the guy.

In footballing and legal terms (being subject to English law rather than Scottish), they most certainly are a foreign team.

Yes, they are foreign. However, I agree with you about Redknapp.

Feel sorry for the fans and the people that work at the club that may well lose their employment, but any club that actively encourages the dick below gets what they deserve really...

I never know whether to laugh or cry when I read about my home town club, I always remember how we "almost" beat the mighty Liverpool in an FA cup semi final whilst missing out on promotion at the same time, that usually seems to be there luck, an almost team which made the FA cup win all the sweeter, apparently some Italian businessman is keen to buy, let's just hope he isn't related to Berlusconi!!!

Just read that they have announced that the players haven't been paid for this month. Not sure how much news this actualy is given that the accounts would be frozen upon entering admin.

From reading the article on the beeb it would appear that ny new buyer has to prove they have a spare £32m lying around....scary times indeed.

It's been slightly overshadowed by the news about Rangers, but Portsmouth have announced that they will go into administration again.
