Basically as it says on the tin. Due a new phone this month and have decided to go for a Samsung. Had originally decided on the Galaxy but now that I see the Nexus is out im unsure whether to get that or not as its only about 30 quid more expensive. So anyway any opinions would be appreciated :)

I got an S2 a few weeks back and absolutely love it, but I like the look of the Nexus as well.

In terms of how they look, I prefer the straighter edges and more square look of the S2. That's just personal preference though.

Both have the same dual core processor (1.2GHz), both have 1GB of RAM, S2 has a slightly better GPU and is better and quicker for media and games - though the difference is minimal.

The Nexus has a bigger screen (4.6 as opposed to 4.3 IIRC) and has a much greater resolution.

Both cameras on the S2 are better than the Nexus: 8mp vs. 5mp for primary; 2mp vs. 1.3mp for secondary. Both record 1080p video.

The biggest difference is of course the operating system. Nexus will be the first phone to use Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's rumoured that it won't be too long after its release before the S2 will get it too.

I actually think the S2 comes out on top but it's really upto yourself and what in particular you want. The S2 is most certainly a wonderful phone though, possibly the best out there just now.

Both great phones, but S2 since I'm biased. No other way of describing it, the S2 is an absolute monster of a phone available at reasonable prices.

Samsung really leading the way in superphones now. Cannot wait for the S3.

Should also point out the S2 has been officially confirmed to be getting the ice cream sandwhich update (The new operating system), so it won't be inferior in that sense for much longer.

I'm in the same boat. I've had an iPhone for a few years. But totally bored with it. And the new one is just the same old stuff recycled.

So was looking at the samsung phones. I really like the look of the s2 and the nexus. But heard that there is a problem with the volume on the nexus, it just goes if you lose a 3G signal. Does anybody have one, and is there a problem??

There is a problem, both Google and Samsung have officially confirmed it. But, this also means there will be a fix, very, very soon. I certainly wouldnt worry about it

I'd probably wait till it's fixed then. So you think the nexus is a better phone to go for??

I like the note as well, but it's a monster. Don't think I could pull it off

Its a weird one, you dont often find two phones, from the same manufacturer, with such similar specs.

Id probably go for the Nexus, just because of the screen. The S2 is coming with a Samsung version of ICS, if the Nexus has "vanilla" ICS then that would sway me that way too.

Irrelevant anyway, as I want a Note :)

Until the next version of Android comes out (Jelly Bean). The S2 will always play catch up to Nexus but it all depends if you like the software that Samsung or HTC put on their phones.

Also, to the OP, the S2 has micro SD slot for memory expansion whereas you're stuck with 16GB with the Nexus if that's important to you.

True, better camera too.

Honestly though the biggest difference between the two day-to-day is going to be plain android on the Nexus and Samsung's own Touchwiz (Touchwiz is Samsung, right? Posted Image) skin that they put on top of Android to make it look different. Go into a shop and decide based on which of the two you prefer.

The Nexus will get updates sooner and can be used for NFC payments, but honestly thats only just beginning to appear in the UK so unless you're a fat b*****d who's never out of Greggs or Cafe Nero don't base your decision on that.

What do you do with it?

I got an S2 a couple of months ago and it was my first smart phone. I was really excited about entering the world of apps but other than using the internet on my way to and from work I don't really use any of the features of the phone.

What's good and fun to do with it?

I've got a Galaxy S, will be upgrading soon to the SII. I've loved my 'S'. I've got PowerAmp for listening to music (it's immense with a decent set of headphones - good graphic equaliser) - what's the standard music player like on the SII ? Also, I've got an external 16gb MicroSD for music/films and it takes a couple of minutes to scan when booting up - is the SII much faster at that ?

The sound is not bad I haven't put an SD card into it yet I think the phone has a 16g hard drive as standard so still using that I had to download double twist to transfer my iTunes library and it did it piece if piss.

Just seen a deal at Tesco for a Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile - 24 month contract for £20.42 a month - 300 mins, 300 texts, 500MB data.

Must be a catch somewhere - can't see a deal anywhere near that good anywhere else, even on the T-Mobile website!

Anyone on t-mobile - what are they like as a network? Only ever used Vodafone until now.
In our racing stripes, we rejoice at being "connected"
Without touching, thank god for the internet
We stare at our screens, all our lives, what a waste of eyes
'Till the electrical storm blows our fuses
And we gaze, dumbfounded, at the rain

Just gone from T-mobile and onto Vodafone. T mobile are a better network in the Central belt anyway- I got 3G signals in a lot more places than I do now and they share the signal with Orange.

The only thing I was concerned about regarding the S2 was that it looked quite flimsy and easily breakable. Mines had it's first fall last night though and although back and battery came out and the handset landed face down, not even the slightest little mark on it!

I hate having a cover on my phone. It looks shite, imo.

The phone seems strong enough if it came out of last night's fall without a single mark or scratch anyway. :)
