Thankfully seeing the end of stokes, stitt and Aiken has been the best thing to happen to the league. These guys caused most the trouble in the games they refereed

OK saying "never mind the referees" but the letter was fair comment.I think anyone who goes regulary to South games this season has been delighted by the general lack of petty decisions by the refs we have had this season. It was fair comment to say certain refs were dishing out totally unnecessary yellow cards in particular.I also think ,irrespective of our Scottish Cup efforts, which were dire the standard off football the majority of clubs are playing has improved over the past few years.

I saw Alan Daubney in Dumfries High Street today and thought that i hadnt seen him refereeing for a while. He was one of the best to referee in this area, he could have a laugh with the boys but flashed the cards if he needed to - does anyone know what hes upto. is he still refereeing?

I think Alan failed the fitness test so is unable to ref in the South, pity he was a good ref and a nice guy.

Tie is to be replayed but switched to Wigtown. It should've been played on Saturday but was postponed for the 4th or 5th time due to the weather.

Easy answer to standards is quite simply population in south of Scotland is far less than any other part of Scotland including the borders Where surprisingly all their clubs are also struggling.
Seen more young players in the league this year than in past years and things are looking good
Teams such as Stranraer ,Newton ,Freetown,Heston ,Crichton ,abbey vale ,fleet star ,saints and mids all have very good young players Coming through.
Who will win league is big question as threave keep winning ,someone will drop points but where ?
Personally I think HEston may be team to surprise threave and Stranraer to beat Dalbeattie
Saints are definitely still in it And may the best team win

Now getting to important stage of season and still league to be decided , standard may not be as good as other leagues But having 3 teams involved again is surely more exciting than watching Spartans for example winning for the umpteenYear (Stirling will not catch them).

Yep, I would think that last nights defeat at Newton Stewart has put paid paid to any chances Saints had of catching Threave and Dalbeattie. Although the chances of winning the league were always slim, the draw at home to Dalbeattie was probably just as damaging than the defeat at Blairmount.
Saints may still have a say in where the title ends up as they've still to play Threave at St Marys Park, but the way things stand at the moment I can only see the title staying in Castle Douglas.

How many games have you been to then? I'll admit that some of the football on display at times has been woeful, but to suggest that the refs are the best thing in the league is nothing short of lunacy.

Good shout with Heston surprising Threave by the way. Great prediction that was probably shared by many. Heston played great football that night and thoroughly deserved the win. 2-1 flattered Threave if anything, as Heston should have been 4-0 up at one point.

Listen mate, you're on a hiding to nothing taking on this guy because nobody in our league can ever say they've got a Bert McNab Cup winners medal on the sideboard!
Dunipace have a hugely impressive honours there's no denying that.............if you don't take into account the last 50 odd years! They were second in the It Doesn't Really Matter League Second Division last year didn't you know? Never will any club in the south ever be able to compete with such a feat of excellence. I almost feel humbled that this guy took the time out to post in our forum.
There are a number of excellent players in our league and we have no need to make any apologies for what we are.

Seems it was fun and games at Stair Park on Saturday - four sent off! Anyone there able to comment?
Doubt it.
Seems a lot of people don't care about the SOSL anymore.

The Highland League is far superior to the South and the East combined, and has plenty of followers, yet the forum is as empty as [insert poor team in the region]'s trophy cabinet!

It shows with the crowds at games.
Over 1000 attended Forres Mechanics game on Saturday, no game in the South will attract half that amount.
