As well as being the only English-based club to play in Scotland and being responsible for the greatest giant-killing in history - do we Berwick Rangers have a couple of 'world records' to our name? Or even just Scottish records?

Between 1965 and 1980 inclusive we won the East of Scotland Cup for 16 years running.
(We didn't lose a match in open play for over 20 years... October 1965 > March 1986)

Has any club surpassed that remarkable winning streak?

On 6th August 1980 we won 2 competitions in the same 90 mins - a 4-3 victory over Meadowbank, at Rosewell, securing the Finals of the 1979-80 City Cup (held-over) and 1978-79 City Cup (double-held-over)...

... and then on 15th May 1984, we did it again - a 2-1 home victory over Meadowbank, securing both the City Cup and East of Scotland Shield tournaments for that season.

Surely such a double-double must be unique?

It would maybe mean something if they were not utterly diddy competitions in which most of the time we had to win all of two games to lift the diddy trophies.

I didn't suggest it would mean anything - it would be interesting though, and a minor claim to fame in a pub-quiz-query kind of way. Skonto Riga hold the European league record at 14-in-a-row btw, so we're ahead of them there.

Does this 'European record' include all the pishy wee local cups too, or just national tournaments? If not then you're being disingenuous with your claim.

...

I said European league record as - surprisingly - it relates to leagues in Europe. According to RSSSF. It was simply an example. The cup record (presumably top-level only) is Vaduz, again 14.

I don't know the answer, hence why I'm asking a question in Infowire.

Well your EOS Cup 'record' doesn't belong there, does it?

Ive produced the biggest turd in my toilet every year for the last 10 years. This is about as interesting as winning the City Cup.

Belong where? If you mean Infowire, I'd have thought it was the ideal place to ask a question. If you mean RSSSF, I'm not saying it does, I was simply noting that at top-tier level no club has won cup or league that many times running seemingl. (In terms of leagues, it'd be prettymuch impossible in most countries outside the top-tier, as winning a lower-league would usually get you promoted).

It's simply a query of mine as I was interested by both cases and wanted to know if anyone knew of even taller tales so-to-speak. It's a tongue-in-cheek suggestion in terms of it being a world record to actually make anything of.

You've hardly much room to comment, anyway: it wasn't that long ago you actually claimed Morton held the world record attendance by adding 2 match crowds together (and even under those criteria it wasn't the world record anyway).

East Fife players were said to be "covered in chicken tikka and potatoes" after a fracas in the cafeteria during an Irish Sea crossing.

http://en.wikipedia....Place,_New_York

"The Miller Place Panthers High School badminton team, has earned recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest winning streak in team sports history. "The Streak" began in the spring of 1973 and came to an end on April 12, 2005, when the Panthers were defeated in a match by Smithtown High School. The Panthers did not lose a single match over a 32-year span that encompassed 504 consecutive victories."

Read it and weep!

I tell you what though; I wouldn't give Berwick Rangers a snowball's chance in hell in the New York high school badminton league, but I reckon the Miller Place Panthers would be worth a punt in the EoS Cup ;)

When have Berwick won the league 14 times, let alone 14 in a row?

This is getting stupid.

I didn't say that Berwick had won a league 14-times-in-a-row. I said we had won a cup 16-times-in-a-row, and was asking if this could be a record for winning streaks in any form of competition (hence the 'world record').

I later gave an example that the record for leagues in Europe (which would almost certainly be held at top-level - see previous) was 14-in-a-row.
