I've been looking at this

A1CS X220 TABLET 10.2" ANDROID 2.2, WIFI, MIFI, HDMI, 1080P, GPS WITH CAM
for a prezzy for the wife. Any thoughts?

I bought something similar last December for $215 (140quid)
Here's the thread I started at the time here

I bought a Hypepad (which was a different build of the flytouch II)
Infotm X220 1.2Ghz (running 800Mhz)
256MB Ram / 2GB Storage
Android 2.1, Market & Gmail
GPS w/external Antenna
2 Full USB Ports
2 Full MicroSD Slots
Ethernet Port
Camera, HDMI Out

1 year down the line and we're are still getting a lot of use out of it
It still runs pretty much all the media we throw at it. The 256mb of RAM was pretty measly and it does struggle with a couple of apps open but movies, music, books & games all run fine - Dont expect much from the G sensor & camera - both work but are pretty poor standard.

The one problem I have found is support for it - In the initial months there was a lot of tweaking and improving from various mod-groups but they swiftly moved on to newer tablets and it means that im stuck on Android 2.1. There are so many variations in these tablets and often differing spec within same model.

If you are considering getting one of these tablets check out the forums online such as http://www.slatedroid.com/ which does a good job of separating the various specc'd Android tablets.

If I was buying one now at the low price point I would certainly hold off for the Kindle Fire - Its not got a great spec but with Amazon already releasing the source code I imagine that the homebrew community will be out in force on this one

Well, having waxed lyrically about my viewsonic tablet a few weeks ago, I have to report that I returned it (the viewing angle of the screen killed me). So, I swapped it for a more expensive Asus eee pad transformer which I handed to my wife and told her to give me on Christmas day. I can't wait to try it out - the demo model blew me away!

Was having a browse on some sites(Amazon, Play,Comet, Currys/Pc World), are there any other sites I should be looking at before making my purchase? Apart from Amazon those other 3/4 seemed pretty shit for them.

When I was looking through, I was seeing that there's a good number under £100(on Amazon only) are these likely to be quite shite?

And that was not a good start, losing the Doctor at this stage of the game is pretty catastrophic, the Mafia will be creaming themselves after that kill. Particularly when the Doctor is as skilful a player as Forehead is.

Have a look on Hot UK Deals as there are quite often a good few bargains posted.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a decent but cheap Android tablet. It doesn't need to be top spec as it'll almost solely be used for web browsing and email and I already have a powerful desktop system to take care of heavy computing. There's a load on eBay for around the £50 - £60 mark, such as the Flytouch, Archos, Disgo and Elonex. Any of those worth a throw? Like I said, computing power not really an issue, it'll be purely a leisure computer so I just want it cheap, quick web browsing and reliable. Compatibility obviously important too. Suggestions?

An impulse buy got me this for £70

Only Android 2.3 but I'm not an app-heavy user. Decent ebook reader, Dolphin mini browser works fine, email, facebook, twitter apps all there

Looks like a good option. Has it got the Android Market?

Having started this thread looking at the Archos 80 G9 I ended up getting an Arnova 10 G2. Not as good spec as the Archos but a bigger screen and £60 cheaper (£140).

Did suffer a problem with the battery which meant it had to go back to Carphone Warehouse but got it exhanged no problem.

Not obviously (ie no app you can stick on the desktop) but it seems to pop up whenever required

I've got a couple of those as well, for the same reason you got yours. I couldn't give a shite about what it might or might not be able to do, I just wanted something I could piss around online with and was bigger than a phone and smaller than a laptop. I think it's pretty good actually for all it costs. I dont play games online I just read so its fine.

The only thing that is a bit shit is that its a resistive screen but I'm used to it now anyway and I don't care about that either. For that sort of money it's practically a disposable item anyway.

I got two of them so the kids could use them. And drop them.. And I wouldn't be having a meltdown about it WHEN they do.:P

HMV Arnova 10" G2 8GB Tablet reduced from £278 to £139. Is it worth it? Can't see the processor or RAM speeds but it seems decent.

I got the 4GB version for £139 last month. It's good for I use it for: web browsing, iPlayer, twitter/Facebook, etc.

Some info on the processor & RAM here: http://www.arctablet...-512-mb-review/

Good, stuff. I found out the processor was 1GHz. 512mb RAM seems decent.

Android is terrible. You can have all the hardware specs you like; it won't make a difference if the software is a laggy, bug-ridden disaster.

(Also, there are effectively zero Android tablet apps)

I'm not sure what SEETHING is on about, not unless he's trolling(trolling in the E-Chat section is just sad) but I've got an Android phone, Sony Eriksson I'm on Android market and stuff, and it runs fantastically. The market is really easy to use and it's got plenty of apps that are great.

No. I have an iPad, though, which is lovely.

Good luck finding Android products that don't suffer from constant freezing/crashes/UI lag. I say that as an Android phone user, btw.

I got the Disgo 7900 for Christmas and, after downloading the 2.3 update, no longer gets past the welcome screen. I'm going to have to send it for repair or get a refund, depending on the answer to the following questions (i'm an idiot when it comes to these things so may be obvious)

1. It currently believes im in China and using China Telecom. Is there a way to change this so I can download flash player, Sky Sports apps? There are not allowed in "my region" despite actually being in Stirling.
2. If not, is there anything I can download that allow me to watch iPlayer etc?

There are cheaper tablets out there which can use iPlayer and get flash so i'm hoping there is a way around it.

I was planning a tablet for my daughtes birthday but after hours of research it'll be an ipad 2 she's getting. She'll be using it for social networking, youtube and games so the performance of the ipad is streets ahead.
I'd rather have got a samsung or other tablet but they're not up to the standard of apple just yet.

In what way? Technically, the Samsung 10.1 Tab, for example, has better specs than the ipad2.
