Was wondering New Zealand are a smaller country than Scotland and have managed to host the world cup well, it made me wonder how Scotland would get on with a solo bid. Looking at the existing stadiums we seem well equipped in the high capacity grounds but maybe less so good in lower capacity stadiums though not sure how attendances have been in low profile world cup group games maybe small venues would help with atmosphere. I put Galashiels in as the borders have a lot of history in the sport and Gala was used as a venue in 1999 so could maybe manage 1 or 2 lower profile games. Inverness I felt should be considered as it would bring the Highlands into it. Though with Japan getting the world cup in 2019 it appears they are looking more towards the emergent market and no doubt Argentina will be a strong future contender then maybe a North American bid of sorts eventually but still if New Zealand can do it would a solo bid not be possible and with a decent selection of smaller venues it should be possible to fill most games.

Hampden – semi finals, Quarter Final, 4 group games

Tynecastle /Easter Road (probably not tynecastle due to how tight the size is. -3 group games

Kilmarnock – 2 group games

Perth – 2 group games

Inverness – 2 group games

Galashiels – 2 group games

Motherwell – 2 games

Dunfermline – 1 game

Livingston – 1 game

It would be bloody great and on paper it would work.

On paper it would be good but would football clubs let them use the pitch during the season and for such a long period of time. Since let's face it this World Cup has went on for ever

I'm not sure what the dates for the 2015 world cup are in England but plenty football stadiums being used there - St james', Annfield, Old Trafford etc. So I guess something could be sorted out on that side.

The 2015 world cup is running 4 September – 17 October the last one in Europe (France 2007) ran 7 September – 20 October so if we hosted it would be about the same time. The next one we could go for would be the 2023 one and then every other one after that as it goes at the moment Europe-Other-Europe-Other. The 2015 world cup are proposing using the following grounds Wembley, Twickenham, Old Trafford, Mellennium Stadium, Emirates, St James', Annfiled, Elland Road, St Mary's, Rioch Arrena, Welford Road Stadium, Kingsholm Stadium. So they are using 2 Rugby Club grounds, 2 International Rugby grounds and the rest are football grounds.

Infrastructure-wise I think Scotland would have no trouble hosting it whatsoever. My worry would be whether we could guarantee full stadia for matches, especially if the Home Nations were not involved. Rugby is nowhere near as popular in Scotland as in New Zealand.

Maybe we could move it to June-July, getting away from the football season and hopefully playing in decent weather might encourage more people to turn up. Not sure whether the rugby powers-that-be would allow that though.

The 1987(NZ & Aus) and the 1995(SA) were May to June. The only rule that i can find about the criterias for hosting is you must have a a venue of (minimum) 60,000 capacity for the final.

They'll all already qualified for it, including Scotland.

I think he just means for the "other" games in the pools, Georgia v Romania for example.

I'd love to see the World Cup here, easily achievable for us as others have said. Not sure if a Stadiums:City ratio exists as per football events, but even if one of the Glasgow grounds needed to be dropped there'd be alternatives.

Would have thought Italy would get the next European event after England, but I'd like to be wrong.

The 1991 World Cup was jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and France.

Scotland got to host a group (Scotland's) one quarter final and one semi final.
