They've not set a date, but it's likely to be a few weeks after the nexus is out.

And the rest!! Touchwiz is your enemy!

Any phone with manufacturers' skins and carrier branding on top will have to wait a good while. You won't see it on an S2 for 4 months at least. Remember, 4.0 is a big jump - the OEM's need to figure out how to adapt this to meet their own needs.

The Nexus S will be the first of the older phones to get it, probably before Christmas too. I'll tell you what it's like ;)

In fact, thinking about it, there will probably be a Samsung Galaxy S3 running ICS before it's pushed to the S2

The nexus is made by galaxy though, I'd be extremely surprised if they hadn't been allowed to play with the developer's build and get it ready for android's best seller fairly sharpish

You could be right. But given theyre also making the flagship ICS phone, Id be surprised if they risk damaging sales to it by releasing an early ICS update for the S2

You may have mentioned it in passing :P

My phone is simply ahead of its time though. All the major manufacturers are now releasing phones with 4"+ screens. I would be amazed if the iPhone5 doesnt too.

Compared to these 4"+ models, my phone isnt actually that big

Dell Streak
5" screen
152.9 x 79.1 x 10 mm
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
4.6" screen
135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9 mm
HTC Sensation XL
4.7" screen
132.5 x 70.7 x 9.9 mm
Samsung Galaxy Note
5.3" screen
146.9 x 83 x 9.7 mm

You can all sleep soundly in your beds tonight, knowing all that

Im actually tempted by the Galaxy Note, rather than the Nexus

A mate at work just bought a Galaxy Note off t'interweb - he won't say how much it cost him though.

It's HUGE.. hold it to make a phone call and you look like a hobbit. Very nice looking phone mind.
In our racing stripes, we rejoice at being "connected"
Without touching, thank god for the internet
We stare at our screens, all our lives, what a waste of eyes
'Till the electrical storm blows our fuses
And we gaze, dumbfounded, at the rain

Well, as promised I manually updated my Nexus S to 4.0.3 IceCreamSandwich y'day :D

It takes a bit of getting used to; there's a lot more logical side swiping and the blue theme is cool, I mean REALLY cool. Startup screen is a riot of colour, and the camera much better and panorama effect means you don't require a 3rd party app for that. Lockscreen shortcut to camera is an improvement too. Contacts screen isn't displaying facebook pictures - I haven't found how to do that yet. GMail user interface has been made clearer and the notification bar is partially see-through (opaque?) System icons have been modified too.

One of the best things is you can actually see pictures of all the available downloaded widgets for your homescreens before you select so no more blindly picking a widget then finding its no good when it lands on the screen! Widgets are resizeable and the app drawer at the bottom is simple to change app shortcuts however you want.

The whole process of scrolling through homescreens and within OS settings seems a lot smoother, I guess as a result of the hardware acceleration (though this still cannot improve the seriously shite laggy android facebook app.

Minus points; NO facial recognition, hard to get used to swiping to the side thru apps instead of down, and Google shortcut bar takes up space at top of every homescreen. There's no soft keys show up either - obviously on phones other than Galaxy Nexus there are hard keys at the bottom that do the job.

Overall it feels like a whole new phone in my hand. Excellent stuff!

Im due an upgrade in May from my HTC Desire and I really fancy getting the new Nexus - looks quality. Vodafone have fcuked me about a fair bit so I reckon I can upgrade now if I want which is fine however.....

Are there any phones in pipeline due to come out between now and June that are likely to be worth holding out for or should I just go for Nexus the now?

Galaxy S3 is likely to be announced in Feb. Rumour has it it'll be a quadcore 2ghz processor, with a 720p super amoled screen, and possibly be 3D too. If it was me I'd wait for that.

I'm in a similar position, contract runs out in July but can upgrade in January. I think you've just answered the question I was about to pose.

A quick question.. Does anybody else have a nexus?? If so does it get really hot, even at normal use.. Mines gets upto 47c/116f inside. Its a bit of a worry.. Is this normal.. The phone still runs fine with no problems..

Install a different keyboard. Theres plenty on the market. I use swiftkey but others, like swype, have good reviews too

I use Swiftkey as well, and it is in a different league to the stock keyboard. Very intuitive. I don't find it overly sensitive tikklar.

One more thing Nexus people.

On the old android when I got a txt or email, the icon on the screen would show a little 1 or 2 next to it dependant on how many new messages/emails etc were there. On the nexus it doesn't seem to do that? Any ideas?

HTC have announced three new ICS mobiles: One X, One S and One V.

http://www.gsmarena....c-news-3892.php

One X has a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and should rival the Samsung Galaxy II / Nexus as the top Android phone when it comes out in April. Maybe worth waiting for if you're changing your phone soon...

I think you'll find that the Note is the top Android phone, in terms of technical specs 8) Although, it cant compete with a 1.5Ghz quad core :o
