It's getting kind of hard to believe things are going to get better. I've been drowning too long to believe that the tide is going to turn. It was a good idea to have the challenge to generate a bit of interest in Indycar. Same as going to Vegas for some glitz and glamour to end the season. Wheldon started last the race before because of problems in qualifying and the challenge didn't affect his driving. Pretty much everyone involved in the crash was an innocent bystander with nowhere to go so if Wheldon hadn't been there it would probably have been a similar outcome for whoever was in 23rd or 24th at the time.

Disagree, Dario was beaten by about 8 inches in the last race, after being within 2 ft of each other (Ed Carpenter was it?) for about 20 laps!! that was exciting!

Thought last night's programme was a fitting tribute and I was almost in tears at times. I totally agree with Mark Blundell's point that he was barely known in this country for his achievements. The same goes for Dario Franchitti. It is disgraceful that these guys have achieved so much but it has barely registered with the media over here and they could probably have gone for a walk in Edinburgh or London without being recognised.
Dan Wheldon has probably received more column inches in the British press since Sunday than he did for all his achievements in the States. It is somewhat ironic that many of the paperscommented on how he was barely known over here when these same papers were the reason for that. What really summed it up for me is there was no mention of the tragedy on the BBC's Newspod podcast on Monday - but they'd mentioned some bollocks to do with jockeys whipping their horses on Friday's edition.
RIP Dan - and as was mentioned on last night's programme, I'll never forget when or where it was when I found out the news.

Nascar race from Talladega tomorrow evening is free-to-view on Premier Sports . Although he never raced in the series, there will be a tribute to DW.

"In an attempt to make the race even more dynamic, Talladega Superspeedway has offered a US $100,000 bonus to the driver who takes the lead the most if more than 100 lead swaps take place during Sunday's race"

Not really no. Talladega lends itself to a lot of bump drafting and a lot of pack racing normally that you would normally see a lot of lead changes anyway. I would recommend anyone with an interest in motor racing that hasn't seen NASCAR at a superspeedway to give it a chance, some great racing to be seen at Dega and Daytona.
