I'm looking for an LCD full HD of course, no bigger than 42" although that could be negotiated, wouldn't mind 3D but not essential, all for under £1000.
I don't know a great deal about TV's hence the reason I'm asking for the opinion of trustworthy PnB TV nerds out there. What are the best ones to go for that I could get with those stats and for up to that amount of money?
Thanks in advance.

Theres a huge range of 42" tvs under £1000, including 3D. Although, you'll probably compromise a little on the tv to get 3D.
Best bet would be to read a bit on the various types - LCD, LED, plasma - and the various specs - MhZ and so on.
Amazon have a decent range of tvs in that price range

As for the size, I want a 42" at least, just because.
I'll be getting sky soonish too so I'd like something that would allow the HD feed to work as well as possible.

I have bought my last TV at Richer Sounds and their prices and service I found were good so have a look there too.

LED>Plasma>LCD is rubbish. LED and LCD are essentially the same, it is only the back light that is changed. LED is supposedly better but you need to watch for side lit TV which just aren't as good. Plasma only comes in screen sizes 46" plus. Plasma is less energy efficient but generally has better blacks, viewing angles and less display lag for games.
Regarding 3D. With most active sets (the ones that require the expensive glasses), the 3D doesn't effect the 2D performance. Passive sets (cheap cinema style glasses) I'm not too sure because I've never seen one in person. 3D is pretty much an extra spec for a high end TV.
Smart TVs are also starting to become more common when spending £800+ so if you think that might be useful look up what apps and stuff is available to your smart tv because all the manufacturers have their own system.
Richer Sounds will price match any price, including online prices.

I would go for this Toshiba. £5 over budget but you get a 37 inch screen and full HD (1080x1920). Nothing fancy but if size matters you will struggle to get a better TV.

eh, naw. Unless you are comparing best v worst. Energy usage doesnt come into picture quality and Plasma is available in less than 46''.

Eta : noticed you only want to go to 42 inch but samsung have reduced the surrounding frame to millimetres so it will work out roughly the same size ( total , not picture ) as most 42 LCD tvs

- Size - there's plenty of websites that give guidance depending on distance from screen and it seems to work well.
- Type - Depends if you care about energy usage, LEDs still seem to have some problems (in side lit as previously mentioned) and in my opinion plasma is best 46" and greater until you reach projector size.
- 3D - Typical premium for 3D on like for like models is ~£100 to £200; depends if you care!
- Features - These can be great (iPlayer, etc.) but it's still early days so check the limitations as Sony kept promising 4OD and ITV Player and failed to deliver.
I ended up going with the Samsung UE40D5520 LED for £480 from Comet. It had decent reviews and I like that you can plug in your hard disc and it'll play AVI/MKV/MP4 files. Equivalent model up is the D6100 which has 3D, ARC, and internet browser; it costs £120 more.

No idea what to look for though, or how much I'd be looking at spending??
Are the lesser brands best avoided? I've seen a couple of Technika(?) ones at what seems like reasonable prices.
At least 32" and full HD are my only requirements. Preferably no more than £300. Is that a reasonable price? Any recommendations?

I bought this for my sister recently:
http://www.currys.co...201512-pdt.html
The Panasonic Viera TX-L32U3B which is under £300 (just) and is a Which best buy (if that means anything any more). It doesn't have any of the Smart TV options but my sister had all that with her Virgin box. It's supposed to have a decent picture on SD and HD and good sound for a flat screen. It also looked good in the shop!
