And another heavy blow lands upon the powers of disorder and disgrace... Sion are deducted 30pts by the Swiss Super League, for their fielding of ineligible players.

Article below (posted on the other sub-forum) is in German, but appears to say deducted 3pts for each game an ineligible player featured in (a total of 10 games from the 18 they've played)... At halfway, this drops them from joint 2nd to bottom, on 1pt, some 10pts from 9th (play-off) and 18pts from 8th (safety).

No other clubs receive points, default wins, etc. Sion are, currently, still in the Swiss Cup.

Basle's participation in CL is safeguarded, as is Switzerland's FIFA & UEFA memberships.

Deducted a further 6pts for fielding ineligible players in the Swiss Cup (presumably as an alternative to reinstating the several opponents they've defeated in previous rounds, which would create a big scheduling nightmare).

That leaves them on -5pts [minus 5], some 16pts from 9th (play-off) and 24pts (safety).

Presumably that woud be reduced on appeal?

Not necessarily. It's 3pts per game in which an ineligible player featured, which is fairly standard. It may even be specified in the rules.

In a Scottish context, Hamilton/Livingston/Dundee/etc. didn't overturn their punishments... points deductions or relegations... upon appeal.

Do you mean you don't know? Get in to the loft and get The Swiss rule book out.

Will be interesting to see the Sion response, if any. Certainly the Swiss FA were more or less s forced into action given the proposed sanctions from UEFA. I'm not convinced they would have acted otherwise, so may be more open to reducing the penalty on appeal.

The Scottish example isn't entirely valid given that neither of those clubs were at the higher end. Would the SFA impose a 36pt deduction on the OF, Hearts or Dundee Utd? I don't think they would.

Either way Sion deserve to be punished and have no one to blame but themselves.

I do feel sorry for the Sion FANS on this though . The idiot who runs the club is practically conning them with all his bullshit , very much like a certain trumpet in Edinburgh .:(

We shall stand firm with our Swiss comrades in the face of these grave injustices.

We need summer football and a sectional League Cup, no doubt, but we also need an 18-team SPL...

Only in the same train-wreck manner as the Livi / Dundee responses. Unfortunately I fully imagine that the responses on the Sion forums (wherever they are) are no more rational than the responses gotten here for said decisions.

I don't suppose they'll also be proposing their team fights it all the way in all the courts... boycott their away matches... sue administrators and officials who've always had it in for them... by any chance?
