Dont want to speak ill of the dead but this could be the best thing to happen to the raiders in decades.

Exactly what I said on the NFL thread!

The guy had turned into a Cancer in the Raiders organisation! He was a visionary and trailblazer back in the 60s, 70s and 80s but recently he has just been a crazy old man

The team started to turn the corner in the past couple of years when he was still alive, so I'm not sure.

Who's to say the heir to the throne (that being his son Mark) will do things any differently than the way Al did them? And the problem with that is, Al Davis was a true football man who up until recently knew exactly what he was doing. By all accounts Mark Davis knows absolutely nothing compared to his dad. If his son is as stubborn as he is, it could be a very bad thing to happen.

RIP Al.

While I can not argue with whats been said regarding the past 15/20 years for the Raiders, he was still a unique character who shaped not only the Raiders but also the league at the same time. He lived the 'Just Win Baby' mentality and hey, you either loved him or loathed him....and as a Raider fan that was often at the same time.

First RIP, certainly a major figure in Anerican sport, controversial too.

Agree on point you make.

A lot of stuff on twitter about Him signing first Black and Hispanic head coaches, but I've felt his ownership was holding the raiders back. Be interesting to see the new direction.

Hunter S. Thompson wrote a cool piece about Al Davis, I remember reading it in 'The Great Shark Hunt'. He maybe stayed on too long, but he should be remembered for what he did back in the 60s and 70s.

Certainly a "character" who will be missed. Wouldn't surprise me if he was suffering from dementia or alzheimers in his last few years.
