True, not a big fan. It's just our central defence is a nightmare on four legs usually and we will be lucky to shut out Liechtenstein let alone la seleccion, imo :(

Another 2 goals for the man tonight, looking promising!

Yeah, he was very impressive. I can see him getting a big move in January or the Summer.

This boy has potential.

It always mystifies me when we have a promising player on our hands that we don't give him a full cap - thus making sure he can never be poached by the other Home Nations.

I doubt England would pick him any time soon. I agree with you generally though. We should have capped McCarthy earlier.

I'm quite sure I heard the SFA could have played Matt Le Tissier but they refused

Was wondering what his situation was. I take it he can still play for England of selected?

It would be good to see him get a move to a top Championship side who will play him, let him get in the goals and then maybe get the chance at Premiership if they get promoted. I hope he doesn't get snapped up by a current Prem team and either sit on the bench or be thrown into a struggling team at the bottom of the table.

His scoring record at the moment (early days of course) reminds me of Steve Fletcher when he was banging them in for the u-19s. Hopefully Rhodes develops in the same way (minus taking the huff with the manager). Off topic, but good to see Wallace, Dorrans and Snodgrass all make the step up from that side which lost to Spain in the final. Hopefully a similar number of these u-21s can do the same thing.

Selections should be merit based, I don't agree with capping players in competitive matches purely so that they can't play for anyone else.

Rhodes looks promising, but he's not at the same level as our current strikers at the moment, and still has a lot to prove. I was very impressed tonight though.

the player should be capped so we get hime when he does reach his full potential rather than play for another home nation.

If he went on to play for england id be fuckin raging with levien or the sfa for not protecting a future talent.

I didn't even know he was Scottish until tonight as well. Hopefully, he will fulfill his potential and carry his form onto the senior side.

And you'd be delighted if we lost an important qualifier because the manager chose to bring on a 19 year-old guy who wasn't ready yet?

Can you name a single player who has played for us at youth level and has then changed allegiance to England?

I agree with this. If it means capping players like Rhodes and Feruz in a friindly, I would be up for that.

Spain done it with Bojan in 2008 , He hasn't been capped since.

i meant a friendly or maybe the last couple of mins of a competitive

It is simply protecting a future talent from other nations...and we have to because we dont have that many players with this amount of potential coming through.

They can still change allegiance after playing in a friendly.

I'd rather not take up a bench space in a competitive match just for the sake of doing that.

You didn't answer my question about which players had changed allegiance to England after playing for us at youth level.

Let's be honest here, Jordan Rhodes won't ever play for the English national team, good player yes, but England are one of the best international teams with some of the best strikers in the world playing for them and I can't see him ever playing ahead of them.

We don't need to rush him.

England haven't beat a top nation at a competitive level since the World
Cup at 2002, what's why the always get pumped at the quarter finals soon as they come up against someone decent

Also, apart from Wayen Rooney they have very average strikers.

Darren Bent and Peter Crouch would walk into the Scotland team

I think your over estimating the importance of the 7 subs. Generally speaking the manager will have his prefered 2 or 3 who will come on every time to change the game and perhaps 1 or 2 if injuries happen - the rest are there just to make up the numbers and get splinters in thier arses.

I dont see any reason why he shouldn't be on the bench if he continues his progress to give him a cap in a competitive game to safe-guard him from the English.

Stuart Pearce regularly selects players from the lower leagues for his U21 side's these days.

Arrogance has cost us players before.

For club and country;

4 games, 10 goals with 2 hat-tricks, one being a 'perfect hat-trick' (1 header, 1 left foot, 1 right foot)

Scored again for Huddersfield after 4mins

Worth a punt against Cyprus?

... and another. I'd get him in with the squad for the trip to Cyprus whether he'll play or not.
