I think they're pretty similar really.

The big two in each of the countries aren't far apart in terms of stature and achievements IMO.

Looking at it again though, it would probably make more sense to have 1 Russian and 1 Ukrainian representative rather than 2 Russian.

Red Star and Partizan are an irrelevance compared to Shakhtar and Dynamo Kyiv. To be honest I think the reason for Serbia getting a look in is down to posters using the most tenuous means necessary to exclude Sellick and Rainjurz.

Not that I think any of this would ever happen, so the point is pretty moot, but I think we'd be as attractive to a Euro league as the big 3 from Greece, Netherlands or Turkey.

I don't think anyone need resort to tenuous means to exclude Rangers and Celtic. In european terms, you're quite frankly both shite. In terms of ability you'd be in a third tier. In terms of TV revenue or whatever, you'd be in the second tier.

Either way, I wouldn't imagine the revenue from this would be any greater than making the group stages of the Europa League.

You are right however in that this would never happen anyway.

A turd of such epic proportions it has to be released in three installments. The first can stand on its own as a complete adventure. The second links to the first, but has a dark, inconclusive feel generating an air of foreboding and leaving itself wide open for an unknown ending. The final chapter has drama, excitement and moments where you think all is lost. A grand battle is waged where good overcomes evil and peace is restored in your gut.

Mitchell was a useless cunt, right out of the top drawer of useless cunts back in the day. I see no reason to think he's improved any.

The only surprise to me is that it wasn't a Partick fan who made the above comment, given their 'special' relationship.

I'm pretty sure both Belgrade clubs achieved those feats whilst apart of Yugoslavia. So not only has the European cup changed quite alot since then, so have their circumstances.

UEFA team rankings currently have Shaktar Donetsk (11th), Dinamo Kiev (30th), Metalist Kharkiv (52nd), Partizan Belgrade (110th), Dnipro (116th), Vorskla & Karpaty Lyviv (tied 125th) and Red Star Belgrade (136th).

EDIT: Also since the inception of the Champions League in 92-93 only Partizan Belgrade have played in the group stages

The fact that they have become an irrelevance makes me think they are an irrelevance. In the last 10 years we and the currants have been far more prominent in European football than either (although we've fallen into a slump in the last couple of years, and could potentially become similarly irrelevant).

Wikipedia on Red Star Belgrade said:

They have not been in the Europa League since 2007 and the Champions League since 2005.

Whereas teams like Shakhtar, Zenit, CSKA, etc are becoming fairly successful, due to substantial cash injections.
