It still has to be said that the margin of the defeat is wholly uncharacteristic of Threave, as well. Yes the SOSFL is a small league without much quality, but Threave have a fairly good history in the South Challenge Cup (having beaten several mid-table EOS Premier/upper First sides over the past 5 seasons - albeit often quite narrowly) and a good record in the Scottish Cup... they have beaten Stenny, beaten Whitehill Welfare 2-1 after a 1-1 replay, and beaten Edinburgh City 2-1 before losing to Stenhousemuir after a draw, again over the past 5 seasons.

You can't argue 8-1 isn't a massive defeat, but it is nonetheless out-of-character.

As a Threave fan at the game on sat I heard the shouts of "anti-football" and remarks about the stand and toilets etc...

Anti-football have you sobered up yet!

As for the stand and toilets, what were you expecting? Because your associated with Threave rovers, that means you deserve the full red carpet treatment.

Lets be honest man for man we were easily beaten on Saturday and it was a very big wake up call(hopefully) for some of the players. It is only one game and not all doom and gloom, the boys will bounce back. Talbot are a fine club with a great set up, there social club is spot on and the home support is more than the entire south league's average attendance put together on a regular game day. Thought Sam Warren was our best player on the day

Thanks for bringing some sense to the proceedings from a Threave perspective, there are some good comments about the Threave supporters on the Talbot forum, so not all are blinkered, to be honest, the ones who were making all the derogatory comments were extremely well refreshed. I actually thought that Threave had some very good players and had their moments in the first half, their goal was a cracker. But Talbot were up for it and on that form they just don't let teams play and eventually wear them down, just ask the Meadow fans as they experienced the very same thing all be only a three goal deficit and they are a handy outfit. I actually agree that the toilets could be better at Beechwood and I'm sure the club will address this in time, but the ground as a whole is a decent venue with good seated and standing cover with very good terrace all round, the pitch is now excellent and to hear the comments on Saturday was, well, surprising even for well lubricated opposition supporters.

Fully deserved victory for Talbot no one can argue that. Having been at the last few Threave game thought Bell in for Kerr was harsh on Kerr and Bell proved me right with a terrible performance although kerr was probably happy he wasn't playing as he seem to be the scape goat for some of the threave fans. warren and dolly had good games considering. Tough next game away to nithsdale hope there no hangover.

P.s- hope to see ALL the threave fans who were at the Talbot game in sanquhar next week.

No many people with a good word to say about the threave support, also the guy who does the match report on their site has a wee dig at our facilities (this meadow park must be some place). I listened to their players and coaches during their warm up they also had the big time charlie attitude with some of there snidey remarks and comments, so it made hammering them all the sweater.

From what I can tell George Threave's ground does not have a stand and quite a small enclosure, it also doesn't have much in the way of terracing and in short it would seem to be quite a bit behind Beechwood. As I said on the Talbot forum, they have cultivated some sort of superiority complex despite the complete lack of evidence to back this up.

Their ground has a seated stand, floodlights, an area of uncovered terracing (not much; I can't exactly remember), and they have good toilets and I believe turnstiles now and a pavilion. As I have never been to Auchinleck I couldn't comment on your ground, but I think it's unfair to criticise Threave - they've a very good ground by non-league standards.

That's no excuse for criticising your ground, of course.

Actually found this link which gives you a good look at Threave's Meadow Park.

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=7IoSO2Pf_QA

How anyone could consider that place to be superior to Beechwood I'll never know. Beechwood has a 500 seater stand and a good enclosure with extensive well laid out concrete terrace all round. Meadow Park has none of that and frankly would have been unlikely to cater for Saturday's crowd. Jeez oh, what planet are some of these guys on?

They do have covered seats, albeit the stand is not as large as yours. They also have floodlights, which you don't - while obviously I don't know about the toilet facilities and suchlike. Their capacity was 5,000 back in 2005 - and while I don't think that's at all realistic (it'll be much less if certificated recently), they could quite easily have accomodated Saturday's 602 crowd, don't be silly. As many watched Forfar + Raith + Inverurie, and plenty more could've.

Oh, come off it, how on earth would you get 5000 in there, as for the floodlights, Talbot actually do have floodlights, they are behind the stand at the moment and the club await planning permission. I noticed there are seats in the wee enclosure, is there any decent terrace? From those shots it doesn't look like it. Anyway, we wouldn't be discussing this if some Threave fans had been a bit more respectful not to mention realistic. Do you think that ground is better than Beechwood?

There is terrace all around the park, and Threave's toliets are better for what it's worth. Talbots are nearly as bad as those in the Terrace at Palmerston

I was surprised how small the park was at Auchinleck, just imagined it would be a right big surface for some reason.

I am threave supporter and i must say i thought your ground was fantastic, great wee set-up, i must apoligies for any of our supporters blinkerd view. i could probley name the one's who would be doing the slagging, if it makes you feel any better they slag there own club half the time. Meadow park is a great wee ground but i felt that the set up you guys have was a ground you would find in the lower league, so hats off to you. and there were plenty of parts of your ground i think threave could do to take a leaf out of your book.

your club house was first class as were the supporters i spoke too, and i know there were alot like myself who think the same so please dont think all threave fans are stuck up. i must also say that any time the rovers dont have a game a might just think about taking the trip back up to watch you guys since i had such a good time, minus the result. good luck with the rest of the scottish cup and season.

I take it Meadow Park has a big playing surface, Talbot's is not the biggest but certainly not the tightest, Pollok Athurlie and Beith have much tighter playing surfaces, Talbot have a medium sized pitch for the Juniors. To be fair the toilets could be better, Talbot have further plans to improve and that is one area that should be looked at. What type of terrace has Meadow Park? Difficult to see any from that clip. Perhaps we'll draw each other again next year and I'll get a look at Meadow Park first hand.

The dugout side at Talbot is similar to the dugout side at Threave, behind the goals it doesn't stretch as far back.

Just a small park in the general scheme of things I was meaning, I spend most of my time at Palmerston which is a big park, Threave is pretty big.

Both are decent non league grounds IMO, Talbots food's better and lets be honest that's what really matters....8)

Jjesus. Are use all serious. Threave get well beaten in the game so they take it upon themselves to pick an arguement about who has the better football ground. Maybe the only thing they may take away from the game. Stinks of my dad is bigger than your dad and sums up threaves attitude. Good to see other people out of the sos have seen this though

I'm surprised that you're surprised. However, speaking to a few folk about the result, there's not many that have any modicum of sympathy for the humping handed out.

Remind me where use are in the league? i have never had a problem with any team being the best in any league as long as they can carry that position with dignity. Threave dont, they carry it with arrogance. Hence the reaction to the scoreline on saturday.

Threave are reigning champions until that changes they are the best in the league. You keep bringing up the fact that the carry this arrogance around what exactly do thay do that is arrogant?

Though the facilities at Beachwood where great last season when I visited. Would rate them above some SFL gorunds or on a par at least.
Can't see how someone who follows South League football week in week can complain about anywhere given that some of the pitches are little more than public parks.

Would be delighted with a trip to Beachwood in the 4th round, if we both get there.
