Yes. FC Sion broke the rules and they knew they were doing it.

It gives us more opportunity to laugh at one half of the Old Firm as they get pumped in every game.

Craigkillie....

There is a court ruling today that suggested that Sion should be re-instated. So until it is established why UEFA ignored this ruling then we are all still in the dark about who is right and wrong.

Historically, UEFA have a record of ignoring legal findings in displays of arrogance. I suspect that this will be no different.

What is potentially more interesting, and more relevant is what could happen to Celtic FC if they play in this competition and ultimatley Sion are proved right. Is there recourse for suing Celtic FC for loss of earnings by Sion or would they be able to sue UEFA? Are Celtic too quick to accept the re-instatement without considering all the implications?

Interesting times ahead.

It's definitely a Catholic conspiracy. In fact, that explains why the Czech Republic got that penalty. UEFA was making a stance against The Establishment that runs Scottish football against Celtic FC.

This.
In our racing stripes, we rejoice at being "connected"
Without touching, thank god for the internet
We stare at our screens, all our lives, what a waste of eyes
'Till the electrical storm blows our fuses
And we gaze, dumbfounded, at the rain

The Swiss court have no jurisdiction over the Europa League, and nor should they.

Sion had a transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA as a result of non-payment for a player. They flouted this and sign numerous players, who then featured in the game against Celtic. Sion knew that these players were not eligible to play, but selected them anyway.

It would be very difficult to sue Celtic for anything, because Celtic did not make the decision.

after submitting (and having approved) a squad list , they surely assumed they had the ok to play them

It was reported last week that FC Sion and individual FC Sion players would sue UEFA if the civil court case went their way. This is i can understand even though i don't agree with it but i fail to see how they could possibly sue celtic...Celtic are the innocent party in all this.

Yes.

Although, it has been handled extremely poor by UEFA.

Yes, I'm sure the findings of a Swiss Civil court who have no jurisdiction are perfectly relevant in this instance. Thankfully, UEFA have brushed those findings aside for the nonsense that they are.

If they want to appeal it, they should go through CAS. I believe they are already going through with this appeal, but have absolutely no idea what will happen as there is next to no chance CAS can reach a decision before Celtic play Athletico. They've wasted their own time by going through the Swiss civil courts.

This wasn't a genuine mistake; they deliberately and knowingly flouted the rules, and it's within the scope of UEFA's powers to put them out the competition for doing so. Correct decision in my book.

Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre must be at a loss to explain the succession of goalkeeping howlers he's witnessed from the frazzled Pars this season. I'm picturing a scene akin to Basil Fawlty whacking his car repeatedly with a branch after deciding "enough is enough!"

Didn't Sion only pursue this course of action as it was the only bunch who hadn't pretty much told them to fuck off?

Anyway, on the Atletico match itself, I think we'll be completely raped :( , and there'll be an absolute deluge of GIRFUY messages on here, and based on our well-documented shitness in away matches in Europe, I reckon it'll be at least 3-0, unless the defence actually, y'know... defends properly? Up front (not "up top," I fucking detest that phrase!) I reckon we'll probably, as others have said in the "2 cheeks" forum, go with Samaras as a lone striker, though I ain't sure who'll support from midfield if anything launched forward actually sticks (I think they'll be pinned too far back to actually get over the halfway line tbh). Long night ahead for us, and a probable footballing lesson into the bargain (I just hope we actually learn something from it).

Think the best solution would be if we played all the home games and Sion played all the aways.

Christian Constantin, the Sion president, would appear to be as mad as a box of frogs, so I expect this shite to run and run and end up in some hideous Bosmanesque legal mess

The right decision, but sincerely hope the 6 games are as thigh slappingly hilarious as I expect them to be :D

Sion have been playing these players in their domestic league and the rest of the Swiss sides are crapping themselves that all of them might be banned from Europe as a punishment for their FA basically letting the loon in charge of Sion get away with challenging the might of UEFA and ignoring their rulings. This yin will indeed run and run.

A club side taking on their own country's FA - wouldn't happen in Scotland.

I dislike Celtic as much as the next man, but this case was clear cut from the very start.

Sion cheated and were thrown out, Celtic have every right to be reinstated.

The injustice is the timing of the decision and putting Celtic in pot 4 instead of pot 2.
