I see, according to the SFA website, today is the first round of the SFA Youth Cup. The local teams have all got a bye With Saints away to the mighty QOS in the second round.
Well done to the Saints for entering. Only them and Gala from the borders are the only non-league full members teams from the south section to have entered. A far back as i can remember local teams have usually entered but not this year seemingly. Always thought this was a prestigous tournament to be involved in, the chance for the younger players/clubs to maybe draw a bigger club and to play against some possible stars of the future, home or away.
Is this due to lack of an U-19 local league, no players, not financially viable, apathy from the clubs? Just cuirious. I could go down the route of saying that the member clubs recieive there winter money from the SFA, maybe they should enter to show a bit of support to the SFA. Biting the hand that feeds!

Main reason is good under 17s are signed up by senior clubs and local clubs are left having to make up there teams with some lesser players and rather than play and get gubbed they opt not to enter. There is no real answer to this with the present format.
