So I guess the big question is whether the plan's [1] to have Accies come back with a more substantial offer and accept, or [2] we don't want him to leave whatever.

We won't want him to leave, that's obvious. But I can't see us standing in his way too much. If Hamilton give us an good enough offer, we'll accept it, as it's only fair to Paul Currie. The ball is very much in their court. We wouldn't have let him go on trial with them if he didn't have a price.

I'd imagine a beermat was posted through the front door with some derisory offer scribbled on it.

They offered us £5k plus Pat Keogh for Craig Bryson, just after we beat Celtic.

I predict Hamilton will come in with another offer before the window closes tonight and he will be an Accies Player tomorrow. Its only fair to Paul and exactly what Berwick should be doing in finding players with potential to go on and develop with better Clubs and to make a bit of cash from the sale. I hope he gets what he wants.

The worst thing about him leaving would be his penalties. Damon Gray is back

Ponton is alright and fairly versatile, but there's no way he can replace Paul Currie, totally different players. Lee Currie could be put further forward but I can't see him having the same effect there.

No I was meaning in terms of stepping-up. We're now looking at L.Currie + McDonald CMs, Greenhill LM, McLaren RM with back-ups of Ponton, D.Smith + the fullbacks, I suspect? Unless Notman goes CM.

That's just depressing though, and doesn't resolve where we're going replace 10 goals.

Well short of signing someone in the next 7hours, or finding a free agent (who'd be unlikely to be decent), that's what we've got to work with. Darren Smith hasn't lived-up to expectations at all and thus hardly features, and Ponton's still young and inexperienced. Neither would on paper appear to be a starter at the current time. Though you could maybe see Ponton playing LM if we wanted some more pace/speed than Greenhill, or Gray if we're playing a 4-5-1 like v Partick.
Regardless, there are going to have to be 2 central midfielders fielded in each game, or 3 if playing a 4-5-1. That's going to have to be Lee Currie stick-on, then McLaren and/or Notman? unless Ponton or Darren Smith play.

We barely ever sign anyone for fees anyway, and it's unlikely we would have if we did have more time. Partick was far more of a 4-3-3 imo. Suppose the Notman point isn't the worst one, but again, doesn't solve the goal problem, just where to fit him in while keeping Richard fucking Walker in the side
We should just raid Shire.

From the BBC's live deadline day page:
1818: DONE DEALS
Hamilton Accies have signed 26 year old midfielder Paul Currie from Berwick Rangers, after paying a four figure fee to the Shielfield club, the club's first bid having been rejected yesterday. The player has joined on a contract to the end of the season.
