Any truth in jazza chucking a chair at the chairman after the game??
People have to learn, no refs = no games..
Not just at south level, more importantly at youth level, I see Colin is a ref today at a youth game. Total respect for Colin for making a stance against these supporters.

No, the old grapevine working overtime and as usual totally wrong.

Colin made a stance, so, does that mean every game he hears someone questioning his decisions, he picks up his ball and goes home.
Refs will always make mistakes and fans/players will let them know.

There has been loads of opinions on here, but no one seems to have mentioned the person/s doing the verbal abuse.
Were they ejected ?
Have they been banned ?
What are Saints doing to address this ?
Are the club going to issue a statement on the incident ? .

There's every chance that Saints, as a club, will get hammered by the SFA. However, for all of you who think that this is terrible and Saints are the worst club in christendom, I urge you to read the following.

Quote

Kilbirnie Ladeside Football Club
Statement

It is with great regret and a great deal of embarrassment that the Football Club have to report that this coming season’s league games against Beith Juniors will be held away from Valefield Park & Bellsdale respectively. These games will also be behind closed doors.

The aforementioned action has been forced upon by Strathclyde Police in conjunction with the SJFA and West Region and have been reluctantly endorsed by both Clubs.

Both Clubs were called to a meeting today the 15th August 2011 at Kilmarnock Police office by the Police Commander. This meeting was also attended by the SJFA & West Region Secretary’s as well as other high ranking officers and Beith Juniors President & Secretary.

We were told that the ongoing violence that has arisen between both clubs since April 2007 is untenable and serious steps must be taken. It was brought to our attention that policing of our matches is more demanding than policing at Kilmarnock or Ayr Utd games.

As advised by Strathclyde Police, 39 officers were called to our most recent game, this ongoing trend has become unacceptable to the authorities. We were also advised that a Sergeant was injured and is currently off work due to an injury sustained whilst arresting someone, we were further advised that the assistant referee’s car sustained damage this along with the 9 arrests, this sheds a bad light on our club and junior football.

Strathclyde Police recognise the steps we have taken alongside Beith Juniors and will work with both clubs to eradicate these people from our game.

The ever increasing Police bills makes the home game uneconomical for both clubs, to this end we endorse the action forced upon us so that maybe the short term pain will have long term gain. When the games eventually resume at either ground the Police stance will be robust with hopefully custodial sentence handed down to future offenders.

Both Clubs will be issuing bans, at present we have identified 7 persons, these people will be shortly notified of our action.

Those involved in violence at our games are in the minority (<2% at the last game), we would call upon our decent supporters and the parents of the younger element to aid us in cleaning up our image. Kilbirnie Ladeside Football Club has a good long established credible record on the field which in recent years has been tarnished by off field activities, we will no longer tolerate behaviour than brings shame on our club.

We recognise that social problems are at the heart of the problem, we wish to play our part to try and restore some semblance of order. We plan to contact the local school where we believe some of the problems may emanate from to offer help and hopefully introduce initiatives that may help both parties.

Please be assured we will not tolerate any further bad publicity and will take every possible step to exclude those individuals who tarnish the name of Kilbirnie Ladeside.

The abuse directed at the match officials whether it's perceived to be vile or banter is fuqq all compared to the above and, as Buck's Fizz once said, If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

I'd also like to add that it would seem that Saints are involved in some sort of controversy when a certain R Williamson is a match official, a coincedence or not?

You are right it doesn't mean anytime him or other officials who get abuse will pick up the ball... these guys who referee in our leagues are subject to serious abuse week in week out and very often for no reason at all but doing their job. As a fan in the south of scotland football league I and many others I know shout for things just in a hope that you will get the decision you want... however I totally disagree with the part where you have said if the ref makes a mistake the fans/players will let them know!! This is absolutely not the case, very rarely when players and fans shout for fouls, offsides, penalties, corners or what ever is all just them chancing their luck!! There are too many players and fans esspecially in the south game and of course football in general that know very very little about the laws of the game which does not help at all!!!

As for the abuse Colin has maybe over reacted, however we all don't know really what has been said we are all just guessing... it's a sad day for south football where the referee has decided to call it a day on a game! Fingers crossed saints fans and other fans in the south will lay off the guys refereeing in the south - of course more of the stick is banter stick... however over my time i have heard some serious threatening abuse made toward officials and i stand their thinking what a halfwit - if some of the fans spoke to someone in the street, the way they abuse our referee's they would be lifted in the street and charged... lets hope its all going to mellow a little bit and let the game be played the way it should be.

Lets look forward to the next set of fixtures in the south!

Don't know Colin Saunders the man, but I do know Colin Saunders the Referee!! The guy can lose control of a game in the space of 10 mins with some truly shocking decisions against both teams and can really rile people up. Don't get me wrong the abuse is way over the top but my point is, this is an experienced Ref here not some new blood and he has had stick at every game I have seen him ref. Unless he was afraid for his safety ( not the case) he has made a complete fool of himself abandoning a game for something shouted from a supporter. Last week he stopped the game to have 3 Dalbeattie fans removed for the same kind of thing. You need Refs and you must be a sadist to do it as you will never please everyone and you will be shouted at, so why Colin has let supporters get to him now is a bit strange. Its sad for the guy he felt that bad and had to take his ball home but even sadder for Saints as they will probably get hammered by SFA.

I think he is referring to the fact that 'The Spectator' and 'THESPECTATOR' are different people.

My point was that I don't want confused with the guy who couldn't turn his caps lock off during registration.

Just trying to distance myself from his posts, unfortunate coincidence with the names.

That's my most redeeming feature too!

For what it's worth, I think Saunders makes games about himself too often and that's not what you want from a ref. He could rest his whistle on that petted lip sometimes.

I don't know the exact circumstances in this instance, maybe the fans crossed a line, but stick/banter is an occupational hazard for refs unfortunately.

Can't go abandoning games because of a little bit of stick on the touchline, no matter how severe it is. The Juniors must think we're a bit of a lauging stock.

What will the consequences be for Saints do we think? The league will have to back the referee i'd of thought so it may be a possibilty of wigtown progressing.

Wigtowon - Abbey vale semi final with Threave Rovers being knocked out from the other side of the draw. Huge incentive for both these teams to get into a cup final, especially Abbey Vale. Long time since they were anywhere near a cup final.

Jjust on an extra note...i actually think colin is one of the best refs...normally handles games well and you can talk to him...just a bad day at the office....

sorry but i've been watching sos football for years and Colin must be the worst in the league but does that mean he deserves to be abused banter is acceptable but go out on a sat night and shout some of the things thats shouted to refs and you'll get locked up! seen some other posts on here saying he accepts money to do the job so he should take the abuse well the cops get paid do they take the abuse no they lock you up, saying that i have spoken to people who say colin has mouthed off about fellow refs slating other refs so if true then he has to accept it back, i have been to saints games and witnessed the chairman loudly expressing his views about officials and seen him warned by them before so is it any wonder fans seeing this decide to do the same, lets stop the abuse and have some good natured banter with the refs there's no need for the nasty things said to some, no matter how bad they are! if you think you can do better and that wouldn't be hard in this refs case then go do the ref coarse!!

Most boys play in the sos now as a hobby and to enjoy a game of footballand to hopefully reach a higher level of football but some refs are turning up with there arrogance and unwillinging to have any proper dialogue with players and officials. If they have made a cock up or few in a game then they should be man enough to admit it. They would get more respect from players and officials. Instead games i have seen with said official if he gets a decision wrong for a team and that team protest he seems to then have it in for that team for the rest of them game. More communication would not go amiss and may lead to more understanding from players and officials

£100 fine for Saints. £100 fine for Norman. Each suspended for a year. South League to decide about the tie.

Saints I imagine will be fairly happy with that outcome.

Although if the game had a stronger referee in the first it wouldn't have came to this.

edit; This is only what i've heard btw. Reliable source though.
