Well, the end result was bitterly disappointing but I had a great day apart from that at the semi final. The atmosphere in the pub before the match, and once inside Wembley, was superb and it's just a shame the second 45 minutes didn't go the way the first had.
I thought Everton probably controlled the first half but didn't really fashion many clear opportunites, but the Blues looked composed on the ball and were rarely threatened. It was a huge cock-up at the back for Liverpool but a cool finish from Jelavic. At half time, I reckoned we needed a second goal but we lost the composure and control which was enjoyed in the first half as Liverpool took a grip of it.
It looked like Moyes moved Fellaini further forward at the break, which didn't help as he was strolling the game from midfield in the first half. Carroll should've scored the header but until Distin's mistake, it looked as though they were beginning to run out of ideas. We couldn't get to grips with it at 1-1 - the ball wasn't sticking up top and we were crying out for a Pienaar in midfield to settle the play down, take a hold of the ball and create.
And, for the winner, it was disasterous as well. I've no idea what Coleman was thinking for the challenge - jockey the man to the corner flag, which is where he was going. And then the marking was extremely poor when the ball came in - when the free-kick was awarded, I had a sickening feeling they'd score.
I was very disappointed as Everton had it in their palm of their hands then contrived to toss it away. But, on the balance of play and the second half especially, Liverpool deserved it as they created more chances.
Still, the atmosphere was great and everyone respected the silence before kick off, which was great. Disappointing the Blues lost but someone was going to be disappointed - that's cup football for you. I hope Everton can be back at Wembley sooner rather than later.
For we're the Pars, Dunfermline Athletic,
And now we are on song,
For we're the Pars, Dunfermline Athletic,
And we'll go marching on.
