Noticed the 1230 pm kick off so left the wife to watch the game( my second Dalbeattie game in a week) the joys of a holiday home on the costa colvend ! .
Stranraer's team should be sponsored by mothercare but some of them wouldn't qualify !! the goalie looked about 13-14 . How refeshing to see a team committed to youth.
Inded they took the lead when the Dalbeattie No5 was that caught square and the Dalbeattie keeper made a horlicks of his angles and the Stranraer stiker made an easy finish.
Thats as good as it got for Stranraer as Dalbeattie swarmed all over them and dominated the rest of the game.Goals followed at regular intervals and Dalbeattie won with a bit to spare.
Looking at the Crichton and Stranraer games I would say that Dalbeattie have a bit to go.
The right back and wee centre forward are Dalbeattie's best players .
The ginger lad at right midfield is as lazy a player as I have seen.
The referee was excellent.

Stranraer from what i heard gave Threave a very good game on the opening day, but from the reports it was more or less the same team as what they had last year, dont know if anyone could shed some light on that.

I took in the Threave/ Crichton game and it must be said Crichton looked well off the pase, Threave really should of hit double figures. Donely still proving he is the best striker in the league at the moment with 8 goals in 3 games

Crichton did have a couple of chances but you're correct it was men against boys. Threave looked very good better than last season I would say early doors but they'll take a bit of stopping

Stranraer's team is not more or less the same team as last year. Under 17s,19s and 4 or 5 of the older guys who have been there for a few seasons make up the squad.

Hear the youth policy went out the window tonight against Newton Stewart.Makes a mockery of the league and sad for the younger Stranraer players sitting in the stand.
However a good test for the Creesiders and the youngsters will no doubt get a game on saturday!

Not that simple.
The manager was so annoyed with the performance on saturday that he felt it nescessary to send a message to his 1st team squad by demanding that they all made themselves available for this reserve fixture as he is well within his rights to do as manager of the football club.
Unfortunate for Newton Stewart and for the youngsters in our reserve set up that they happened to be the victims on this occasion but that's the vagaries of football.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change and the energy to change the things I can.

If it's correct Stranraer pretty much played a first team then they should be embarrassed at the result. With all due respect to Newton Stewart, a third division side should be taking a big win against most South sides, like they did to Saints in the cup last season.

I am afraid PR does not come into it when the first team manager is searching for results-the majority of our forwards did not travel down as there has been little change on that front but another game under the belt of a new defence that has been ropey so far.
As has been said unfortunate for both our younger players and Newton but with the Junior League cup sections happening in Ayrshire and the central belt playing a friendly up there at the moment is not easy. As for a mockery of the league, Stranraer at least put a team in the league as apposed to only playing cup ties with teams made up of first team/fringe/under 19 players and as such can and will play any of our players in fixtures that we feel is beneficial to our club.

Did'nt think I would have to spell it out but the point was players joined Sranraer reserves to try to prove they were fit to progress. You don't make much of an impression sitting in the stand (or at home!) Also for a team that is struggling to keep the Stranraer fans onside it did not seem to me to be a great move(PR)
It was significant the loudest cheer was when Newton Stewart scored.Don't get me wrong it is the players who were dumpted I am sorry for not Newton Stewart .I am sure they enjoyed testing themselves against 3rd Division opposition.

Very few games involving Stranraer reserves will take place midweek, so it would not be a regular occurance for first team players to make the journey. On the flip side of your thoughts is the fact that it further reduces the them and us attitude that has hampered SFC for all to long - the players are all signed with one club that should utilise its resources to the best effect for. Do you think Alex Ferguson would worry what people thought if he felt some of his first team players were in need of an extra game and sent them with the reseves to Halifax or Bury on a Tuesday night?

I agree fully with your last comment Jimmy, at the end of the day if the 1st team manager feels some of his players need extra games then he has every right to put them in the Reserve side.

For me negative comments from supporters can spin a young players head into thinking that their local sides dont want them, if any young Stranraer player reads the comments on here that is what he'll think. The young lads who werent playing last night should use their disappointment as a catalyst and maybe show the 1st team manager that the young players are willing to give their all for Stranraer FC. Any young player who wants to play football has to prove their worth at any Club and they will take a few knocks on the way.

Before anyone jumps down my throat i know in an ideal world everyone would love to see 16 local players playing for their hometown club whether you are from Newton Stewart, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Stranraer or Dalbeattie, but realistically that is wishfull thinking.

No - it's one of the points of having a reserve team. It shouldn't be a separate set-up, rather a side to use to bring youngsters through and to play first teamers either returning from injury or clearly in need of match practise.

I don't need anything spelt out - but thanks for the offer.
I still don't see what your problem is although I do understand the disappointment that some of our players would have felt about their not being selected for the reserve game. Life can be tough sometimes; that's the way it goes on occasion.

Stranraer FC run several teams and all operate under one umbrella. Keith Knox is the manager and he is in charge of team affairs. If he wants to use a midweek reserve fixture to try out first team players and formations, it is perfectly within his right to do so. There are far bigger and better clubs than Stranraer that do this on a regular basis.

When you don't play for the first XI at any club there is always the risk of your place being affected on occasions by drop down from above just as much as you hope for an opportunity to move yourself in an upward direction. As a sportsman, it is part of the territory.

I think the other comments also help illustrate my point.

Sir Alex started at East Stirling :P but joking aside it IS the same whether it be Premiership or Scottish Third Division, they are the people who are answerable for results at the end of the day, so must do what they feel is for the greater good.
