There seems to be a descrepancy in the Dumbarton v Dunfermline game yesterday. Stephen Husband scores the Pars second goal and is being interviewed talking about his goal in a number of today's papers. Yet most outlets have the second goalscorer as Stephen Jordan. Someone got their wires crossed somewhere.

The good old Record this morning is reminiscing about the Law goal for Man City v United. The article is titled When we were kings. It describes the goal and the consequences in detail. Sammy Lee passed for Law to back heel the goal that relegated United.

This will be news to both Francis Lee who did pass it and Sammy who was 14 at the time. Results elsewhere meant the result was immaterial and United would have gone down any way.

Apart from that it's a right good article getting the date and the picture right. Well done Record staff.

James Cairns in The Sunday Mail has relegated Brechin with a few flicks of his keyboard. Apparently Bonnyrigg looked like winning until "Andy Jackson dragged Third Division outfit Brechin back in to the tie."

On a similar vein ITV last night had Bradford Park Avenue down as a League Two side during their FA Cup highlights last night. Shoddy.

I trust you are only buying (or possibly reading online - which is it?) the Daily Record and Sunday Mail as they are a good source of journalistic f**k-ups.

Did Gavin Berry receive the inaugural award?

IIRC Gavin won the young incompetent fool of the year.

I get the papers for the idle speculation and sensationalism of all coverage.

Is Gavin in with a shout of retaining the award? Who did he pick for the Second Division title this year? Peterhead again?

I don't think they bothered with predictions this year, since Celtic and Rangers can both win the league this time. Maybe we can take a bit of credit on this thread.

I have every faith in Gavin consolidating this year. He can show his wanton ignorance for years to come.

“I scored at Ibrox once when Tony Murray sat on the ball beforehand.

“No one remembers my header at the end of it – they just recall Tony sitting on the ball

Craig Swan in The Record

I remember it well. So well I didn't really need to take 5 seconds to google it and find the footage or check a list of Hearts players to confirm it was Tommy Murray that sat on the ball. Well done Craig!

In other Record news, Euan McLean this time.

“When I was 15 I had already seen Scotland play at two World Cups, with most of those squads made up of guys who were playing in Scotland."

Says David Longmuir Wee Twerp

So, David thinks there were more home based players in the 74, 78 and maybe 82 WC squads. No there weren't. Is he ignorant of the history or can he not count. Did none of the journalists present think to correct him? I knew he was wrong but decided to check it, unlike anyone else concerned

'cos it looks like too much work that would only really be noticed by Daily Record reading pedants?

Away down the Four Isles for a half and a half.

Not on a school night.

You should stay away from threads dedicated to pedantry and tabloid journalism.
