Blackpool was a horrible place in general in my opinion and the ground was no better. Freezing, the fact it had the facilities of Somerset Park and you could feel the floor shake beneath you, as well as the football made for a real howler of a day.

I always sit with the home fans at Blackpool as I refusse to pay £24 to sit in a gazebo that is open to the elements.

Matt Taylor, Kevin Nolan, Papa Bouna Diop, John Carew and if he was fit David Bentley, all signed after relegation for this season. Piquionne, Cole, probably Mark Noble and Robert Green would be considered Premiership class players by most. They have a mid table Premiership midfield that they signed specifically to get them straight back up, those players have dropped a league for a bigger wage packet.

PS On the phone so can't multiquote.

The midfield is strong and there is quality up front. The problem is the defence.

Demel is injured and won't be back for a while.
O'Brien is fucking awful.
McCartney appears to be a different player to the one who played a few seasons ago. If he gets beat then he gives up. He is hopeless going forward.
Tomkins has no sense of positioning.
Faye isn't good enough for a team challenging for the title.
Reid is slow at reading the game. He can't make decisions quick enough.

The guy Potts looks decent for a young player. He's a ray of hope at left-back in a woeful defence.

Yeah, at one point it started raining for 10-15 mins and the driving wind lashed it into us. A joke stand for a team that was in the Premiership last season.

I was at Coventry v Bristol City last march at the Ricoh, can't say the atmosphere was that much better than the average SPL game. They had a big "NFL" style show as the teams came out but it was very similar. Think both teams were struggling at that point though

Atmosphere depends on the game and the stadium - Crystal Palace has the best atmosphere I've experienced in England, 'Boro doesnt.

I'll dispute that (slightly), i was at the Newcastle v Bolton game at St James Park when Keegan had just made his return, and that atmosphere was unbelievable Posted Image

Cheers guys, I suppose it depends on the stadium. The same way the atmosphere at Tynecastle is better than the atmosphere at Pittodrie because it's nearer to capacity. Ah well it's a new experience I guess! I'm buzzing for it, for the matchday experience itself as much as the game itself. They seem to know how to do it down there.

Depends where you're sitting as well. Riverside isn't the best for atmosphere, especially being half full in the Championship but if you're in the Holgate End or in the away end with a decent away support it will still be good especially if it's an exciting game.

Still, at least you have 106 strikers now. One of them being a Hibs reject.

At least there's competition for the one spot available in the team.

The fact that James Tomkins is the best defender in the squad should not be a cause for concern.

Twitter is a fascinating read around the death of doughty - they all appear to have hated him as recently as yesterday but now he is the greatest thing since Clough.

What kind of safety concerns?
Ice around the ground?

Aye, it was the weather that prompted the call off. Unsafe roads/pavements in the area surrounding the ground.

I support Peterborough and try to get to a couple of away games and the atmosphere has always been good, with both sets of fans. Probably better than most SPL games, although bear in mind I tend to watch my football at East End Park and the only decent atmosphere at that ground comes from the away fans most of the time.

Having been to the Riverside four times, it is an absolute morgue unless its a big game. Wouldn't imagine it will be that great for the Palace game, especially considering there won't be a huge away support given the distances between the two clubs.

Barry Robson has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Been offered a decent contract so can't blame him for making the switch to MLS.

The Barry Robson news is terrible for Boro. One of the best performers consistently and the heart of the midfield, always struggle when he's not playing. I don't know if I'd play him anymore, no real commitment to the club.
