Looks like going down to the last day then with West Ham 2-1 up with five to play. Southampton have Coventry at home on Saturday so they'll surely take care of them to make sure of promotion back to the Premier League.

Does anyone know if head-to-head record is considered if two teams finish completely level?

If West Ham win 3-0 and Southampton draw 1-1 tomorrow then both teams will have the same number of points, same goal differece and same number of goals scored. Southampton have the better head-to-head record, but I don't think that counts.

Assuming it doesn't, there would have to be a play-off to decide who finished 2nd.

9.2 If two or more Clubs have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored the highest placed Club shall be determined by the respective League records against each other, taking into account in order of precedence, points gained, goal difference and goals scored. If the above procedures do not separate the Clubs, then the Clubs concerned shall play off a deciding League Match or Matches under arrangements approved by the Board on a neutral ground. The net gate money after deducting the usual match expenses shall be equally divided between the two competing Clubs. Any Club staging such a play off match shall be entitled to charge as an expense against the receipts of the match 10% of the gross gate receipts after deduction of Value Added Tax. In the event of such a match being arranged by the Board to be played on the ground of a Club which is not a member of The League, then a similar charge as an expense against the receipts of the match shall be paid by The League who shall otherwise be responsible for the financial arrangements made with the Club staging the match. These provisions shall determine the ranking of Clubs in their respective Divisions

Cheers. A pre-play-off play-off would be interesting. If you lost that then I doubt that you could raise yourself from that low to compete in the actual play-offs.

The actual rules are a lot fairer, but not as exciting.

Right, kids have been told that CBBC goes off at midday for the live football. (cheers BBC).

Can't see past Southamptom going up today.

Are the playoff teams decided or can there still be a change?

Middesborough need to win at Watford & Cardiff Lose at Palace to get in. A draw will be good enough for Cardiff unless Boro win by 11.

Boro could be level with Birmingham if both results go their way but GD is 23 at the moment.

West Ham(or Southampton) have home advantage in the 2nd leg. Blackpool, Birmingham & Cardiff could all be 4th.

They are notorious bottlers. I almost wanted them to be at hom as they haven't won there since the Carling Cup Final. I still think they'll draw, Boro will win yet sees Cardiff go into the play offs. If only Middlesbrough has gained those 2 extra points at home to Doncaster the other week.

My fingers are crossed for a Southampton cock-up. I reckon West Ham will win today but obviously it won't be enough.

2-0 now. Coventry had started the better side, too.

Cardiff's bottle seems to have crashed as expected, but Middlesbrough unable to find a goal to take advantage.

Incidentally, can anyone tell me anything about the age of this Coventry team? The commentators don't seem to have mentioned it much.

I get an average age of 23. Which in all fairness isn't actually all that young these days

Ridiculously cruel on Coventry. Deserve to lose but it's never seemed like a 4-0 game if you get my meaning. Went to see them last year and they looked poor, Marlon King was the only half decent player that day and he got sent off Posted Image

I hope Cardiff win the playoffs but I'd settle for anyone but West Ham - they are Old Firm levels of vile.

We can finally congratulate Del on keeping Bristol City up rather than Portsmouth's points deduction.

Well done Southampton too.
