Regarding Russell Duncan. I think he will be an important player come January / February when the pitches get heavy and games become more of a battle. The fact that he is now starting to get minutes at the end of games is pretty much his pre-season I would say.

As for the stadium reconstruction if we were to get to wint he league.
We were told at the start of the seasont hat planning permission is all in place - it has been for several years now.
The terrace at the away end would be turned into a stand, the football academy behind it, was built at the time ready for a stand to bolt onto it, so the work is partly done.
There is also some work to do at the Jailend - it was mentioned a two tier stand, but not sure exactly how it would look.
The terrace next to the East Stand would also be seated.

All this work would take 12 weeks we've been told.

I guess we'd need the undersoil heating too, although there was talk of the rule changing to pitch protection and covers may well be sufficient in future seasons.

Anyway, we're ahead of ourselves here. There is still 23 games to go.. and at present we need at least another 21 wins and a draw before we can talk about it !

Thanks TJE ~ * navigates away to amend signature * ~ I agree that we can expect to see much more of Duncan and others, within Del's master-plan to keep up the standard over the whole season.

Not exactly news as teams have to make provision for promotion. I was wondering if as well as seats would there be a roof put on the away end?

Nope. Those filthy c***s in the SPL will need a wash.

I'm sure Spain can knock up a copy of the plans using Paint

I haven't actually seen them no, but I'm lead to believe that the new stand will be designed to be built onto the side of the academy. It was applied for as part of the same application for the academy, which means that because the project has been started (by building the academy), planning never expires. I think TJE knows more about it than I do though.

An update on this, because I was asking the questions yesterday.

The stand against the HFA won't be a simple straight forward single stand, apparently it would extend round the corner and join the West Stand. A low level terrace will extend towards the East Stand also, similar to the conversion that the current East Stand terrace will get. With that, and the seating being put in the Jailend, it would certainly look completely different at Victoria Park.

Also, with regards to swapping the Away support to the Jailend, apparently this isn't going to happen due to crowd logistics.

Blast from the past.

I was thinking (as I do from time to time) about the fixture pile-up. It looks brutal on paper but I think the squad can handle it, to an extent.

If we take this as the first choice team at the moment:

Fraser
Miller Boyd Munro Morrison
Brittain Kettlewell Lawson Vigurs
Gardyne
McMenamin

A "second XI" for some games could be:

Fraser
McNamee Flynn Munro (or Boyd) Fitzpatrick
Corcoran Quinn Duncan Cooper
Byrne Morrow

That still leaves Craig as an option up front.

Not a weak team on paper.

If County are playing "Sat-Tue/Wed-Sat" then it's plausible that we see certain players rotated. Perhaps Adams was using the Saint Mirren game to experiment?

Wholesale changes unlikely but Del should be looking out for players losing a bit of sharpness - and slipping in replacements before they have a poor game. This will be a challenge to any manager's abilities, so it will be interesting to see how he judges it and how well it works out.

It takes a good squad to win a league. While the first half of the season's regulars may get grumpy about it, at least we know the people champing at the bit to come in will want to grab the opportunity.

I think it is a brave decision to rest Munro or Boyd in particular. Indeed the whole Back Four shouldn't see more than one change at a time. But I think Flynn should now start to be getting a little game time as a sub where possible. Trouble is that all the others would also benefit from game time!

But it is great to have the problem of these choices, and not have to rely entirely on a limited squad.

Could argue that yesterday featured 5 squad players; Morrison, Corcoran, Craig, Byrne and Morrow, with only Craig having a poor game. In his defense he was out of position against an SPL side. Agree entirely with your post, and am expecting to see subtle tinkering and rotation over the next month or two. All very exciting :)

Nah, St Mirren have to wear Morton kits.

I have nothing to do today and have an awful migraine, so here's the next two months (not including a potential Scottish Cup QF + replay in March) in terms of fixtures.

A Scottish Cup QF (and replay) would see County play seven matches in March (potentially 8 depending on when the Hamilton game would be rearranged for).

13 weeks to go and at the moment there is 18 games to fit in. It looks fairly daunting on paper.

March sounds worse than it is because of the way the weekends land. Only one midweek game all month at the moment isn't bad. Could really do without the cup though

Yeah but it is 4 midweeks and all the Saturdays in a row. So that is a month of 9 games.

The more I think about it, the more I think not only could we have done without drawing the St. Mirren game, we could have done with just losing it altogether.

Don't buy into this whole panic over the fixture pile up. Professional footballers should be able to play twice a week no bother, combined with having by far the biggest squad in the division it shouldn't be an issue.

Dundee and Falkirk have to play one or two midweek games don't they?

Dundee have to play:

Sat 11th
Sat 18th
Tue 21st *
Sat 25th
Sat 3rd
Sat 10th *
Sat 17th
Tue 20th
Sat 24th

Tuesday 21st could be moved to another midweek if Ayr-Falkirk needs a replay. Saturday 10th could also be moved to a midweek game if Ayr get through to the Scottish Cup QF. Dundee have the easiest schedule at the moment, with only 9 games to play in February and March. However they are scheduled to play Falkirk and then County in the same week.

Falkirk have to play:

Sat 11th
Tue 14th
Sat 18th
Tue 21st *
Sat 25th
Sat 3rd
Sat 10th *
Sat 17th
Tue 20th *
Sat 24th

As mentioned above, a replay against Ayr and the Dundee game is shifted to another midweek. A QF appearance and the game on the 10th March is shifted, with a replay also meaning their game on the 20th March is moved. 10 games in February and March isn't particularly hard going either.

That said, best case scenario is Ayr-Falkirk needing a replay and Falkirk ending up in the QF, before being knocked out in a replay.

I see Falkirk as County's main threat. Dundee are in with a shout but the loss of Rae is going to f**k their midfield.

I'm not overly concerned. It's obviously not ideal, but we have the depth in squad and also the desire at the moment to keep plugging away. We aren't behind with games in hand, needing to catch up, we're already ahead with the games in hand. We could actually afford to lose our two games in hand and still be a cool 5 points clear. It's a whole different ball game to a couple of years ago.

Two bits of news.

1. Our proposed summer gig at the stadium has fallen through. Apparently we were in for Snow Patrol, but the deal fell through and we've now half an eye on upgrading the stadium instead now anyway. Which leads me to...

2. We have applied to update our Stadium Expansion plans with the Council, and as such (and has been pointed out on OTB by one of the notified neighbours) the full plans are currently viewable HERE. I notice the wrap-around corners that were described to me aren't in it!

I haven't had a full butchers at it yet, but it looks like it shouldn't destroy the atmosphere of the place too bad. The Jailend looks to be getting left intact and just modified for seating. The East Stand is getting extended as expected along where the terrace is, but surprisingly at full height the same as the existing stand. And the away end looks to be the same size as the West Stand. All-in-all I don't think this will damage the look of the place at all and will look pretty smart when finished.

Interesting to see what the ground will potentially look like from next season. It would be a shame to lose the terracing, but the stadium will still look very tidy overall.

Where are the tea bars?

It looks like it could be quite nice though. Added bonus in ensuring that Snow Patrol don't come to the Highlands.

Could be a relief. If we get seats approximate to our normal standing positions it looks like there could be less between us and I don't want to suffer the potential repercussions of a haggis pie.

I'm without existing drawings so it's difficult for me to do many technical queries, but by my reckoning the Elevations on the Jailend only show the modifications (apart from the west elevation), and that the Tea-bar will remain there at present.

The away end Tea-bar (the one that sits by itself) has disappeared, but there is a development being added to the very end of the West Stand, which i would hazard a guess may contain a Tea-bar.

The Tea-bar in the new bit on the East Stand has disappeared entirely though, and the drawings quite clearly show that it's quite simply not there. So I wonder what they're planning. Maybe they're going to land a temporary structure in the space between the East Stand and the North Stand, roughly where the old Les Taylor Suite used to be.
