OK, it's just a rumour, but it's a strong one:

Euro falls on speculation
ECR leader Jan Zahradil has attacked the decision to go ahead with the House of History project. Speaking in Strasbourg, the Czech member said, "We do not need this. As Europe is losing competitiveness and geopolitical weight, it is becoming a museum anyway."

They should have to give back the Euro 2004 trophy if this happens.

It's inevitable that the Euro will collapse.

I can't wait to dance on its fucking grave.

How can it be a strong rumour when it has no supporting evidence?

Is the Greek economy not utterly fucked then?

I prefer rumour of Germany wanting to leave. Plenty of whispers they have already started to re-print the Deutsche Mark. Definatly a strong power and most countries in the EU would miss them.

To some extent. That does not mean it will leave the Euro. There is absolutely no evidence of the latter.

To be fair what I suspect will happen is more brinkmanship to try and get a nicer repayment deal. Absolutely no-one would exchange goods in a plastic drachma currency, it would just f**k them over entirely.

Excellent, I go my holidays two weeks today. Thank you for pushing the rate up for me, Greece. :D

The Germans dont need the Euro. They binned a strong currency to go with the Euro and now they have ended up bailing out the southern European diddies and the Irish. Followed by others in due course.

The Euro project is fooked. Everyone should cut their losses and bin it.

I feel sorry for the Germans bearing much of the euro's burdens alone, they should be' helped by the UK and Switzerland joining the eurozone adopting the currency and sharing the burden. We do it anyway when these tinpot countries go to shit. So why not make it official?

Couldn't have worded it better myself. Infact I couldn't, hence my botched effort

I don't really feel sorry for the Germans at all. They wanted this single currency more than most. Them and the French were the driving force behind it and they allowed countries like Greece to pile in when their economies clearly weren't suited to the project. The Greeks totally cooked their books to join it as they thought they would be getting money lobbed at them for ever more. A bit like the Iirish.

Unfortunately for us in the UK, we are having our pockets dipped to help bail out these junk economies and we aren't even members of the Euro.

The trouble is that an economic policy which may suit the French and Germans is NEVER going to suit economies like Greece, Portugal and most of the other southern European countries. The whole thing is just pure mental Eurobollocks.

That's a total understatement - if Germany left the Euro, it would collapse instantly as it is completely untenable without them - they are the backbone of the currency.

Has it ever occurred to you that the European solution for this may well be more, not less integration?

That's unlikey. The Germans are already whining about bailing out the diddy economies. They aren't about to embrace them even tighter.

Thankfully the Euro is in crisis. I will happily watch it all unravel and probably take down some more economies in its wake.

I'd rather we left them to get on with their Euroshitfest. We will still trade with them and go on holiday to Spain and Greece. But they can f**k up their own economies as they see fit without us needing to be involved. It would be like twenty Gordon Browns asking you to start a business venture. f**k that.

Greater integration would help German goods in the diddy countries and provide a payback. Seriously, if the choice is decoupling the economies in any way or ramming through more integration, the natural European tendency is the latter. Maybe Germany will sit out, but I doubt it.
