Was really impressed with grant wilson and thought tweeddales 2 wide players were excellent, not sure I would agree with ross meikle being man of match, neither team really had control in middle of the park. Expected a lot more from linton. Would have been good to see both teams get promoted.
Hotspur didn't show up on the night and got what they deserved by a better Tweeddale team who will rightly go on to win the league. This result really epitomises Hotspurs recent inconsistency, and it will be the dropping of points against allegedly inferior opposition that will cost us promotion. That said, credit has to go to Tweeddale who didn't let us play, and worked extremely hard whilst takng the chances created.
Re Tweeddale, and in reference to this thread which seems to have deviated away from the subject a little, they have several players capable of stepping up and I'm sure they will give a good account of themselves in the A division or beyond if any of them move into the EOS fold. The latter is a slightly different proposition to the A division, though not greatly towards the bottom of EOS 1st, but certainly think that Blair, Nick and possibly Ross Meikle could make that step, outside of those 3 IMO the others have some work to do, but it only my opinion.
In direct reference to the thread, Speedy is and has been for a few seasons now, the best player at this level, probably along with Smithy, Tosh (perhaps not latterly) and now Shorty who is playing at a level below his own standards. There are capable players in each league i suspect but capability is one thing, and displaying it and improving your game is another. The same can be said for stepping up - if you're good enough, you should want to prove yourself at a better level, though in a lot of respects this is lost with some amatuer players IMO.
Re Forsyth and MacNeish, this is undoubtedly our best central defensive partnership, but I understand availability of players to play in the middle has made selection difficult. Gregg Walters is a good example, a more natural central midfield player who is stll working his way back from fittness after a leg break. Gregg also missed the Langholm match immediately before the Dale game having started the previous week therefore difficult to change things i suspect. MacNeish for me has been our standout player this season, and is certainly capable of stepping up. Hopefully alongside Forsyth, they'll form a good partnership for next season and we are able to push for promotion. Whether they are better than Blair or not, in reality doesn't matter and is purely opinion based so the debate could rumble on! Each of them are decent centre halfs and capable of playing at a better level IMO.
Good luck to the dale and rovers for their respective league title pursuits! Would have been good to see all the local teams in the top division - maybe next season!!
Rant over!!
