GOL sniper with 12x scope, mortar and spotter. Tremendous on maps like harvest day when playing conquest.

My only experience of the battlefield series is the Bad Company games. They both follow the same format as CoD - relatively short campaign mode, but an excellent multiplayer set-up.
Battlefield's online game mode options may not be quite as extensive as CoD, from what I can remember there were Team Death, Conquest, and Rush game modes. Conquest is a Capture the Flag game similar to CoD's domination, while Rush sees one team try to defend a series of stations, while the other team attempts to blow them up.
The maps are on a far bigger scale than CoD's, but with more players in each map, they never feel empty/deserted.
I think a couple of the biggest plus points over CoD is the inclusion of vehicles (boats, tanks, humvees, quad bikes, helicopters) & the destructible environment. If some sniper is hiding out in a building, you can destory the walls of the building with tank shells, chopper rockets, c4, RPGs etc. Brings a whole other element to the game.
It took me about 15-20 hours to completely convert to BC2 from CoD. The hardest thing is playing as part of a squad, rather than going lone wolf. In BC2, you play as one of 4 classes: Recon (Sniper Rifles & Mortars), Engineer (Sub Machine Guns/Vehicle Repair), Assault (Assault Rifles & Ammo), Medic (LMGs/MediKit & Defibrilator for Reviving). If you just run around by yourself, you will be killed off quickly & ultimately fail the game mode objective. Playing as a squad/team isn't something I thought I would be into, but it ends up being awesome - resupplying team mates with ammo/ offering sniper support from distance and marking enemies/ healing/reviving team mates making a push for an objective/ or fixing up tanks to maintain the stronghold on the map.
From what I remember there is a similar(ish) weapon unlocking system - as you rank up you unlock armour, anti tank mines, scopes etc.
I assume the Battlefield 3 game will be along similar lines to the Bad Company 2 game. Hope that sort of helps with what the game is like....

Amazon UK are quoting November 4th, so looks like it will probably be the week before/same week CoD8 is released.
A bit of a surprise, I would have thought they would have wanted it out a few weeks earlier than that to snap up any gamers who were sitting on the fence over which one to buy.
I only borrowed BC2 off a guy in work, but i'm now tempted to go trade Black Op's in to get BC2 again

Sitting in a bush, not leaving your spawn for the whole game? Got plenty dogtags from guys like yourself.
Nah, kill a couple then move spots. Always make sure your back is up against something!
Playing Medic whilst holed up in a house with your squad getting shelled and shot at is pretty wild and can earn you a lot of points.

Got bf2 last week completed the off line in no time at all. Online takes a wee bit getting used to. It's more involved than cod you need to think about it. I got pissed off with black ops

I can't see the video that Just A Bairn posted above (blocked in work), hopefully it's not the multiplayer video which i've just come across.
It's just some really quick clips, but nice to finally see some multiplayer stuff:
Video for Multiplayer Action
Theres also some video footage of BF3 being played on a PS3 on the Jimmy Fallon show - footage looks great, which should hopefully mean the console versions won't be too inferior.

Due to the hype for this, and having some funds left on my play account, I decided to buy BFBC2 and been playing it the past few days. First battlefield game I've ever played as well.
Takes a lot of getting used to if you're used to playing CoD. At first I thought it was pretty crap but persevered and now I think I'm addicted. Not that used to any of the maps yet though and playing on hardcore mode makes that slightly harder (I assume you get a small map on screen in normal mode, haven't actually played it).
The vehicle support is excellent and not too overpowered and don't mean complete domination.
The huge maps and being able to blow just about everything up is insane. I love it!
Tried all game modes but mostly been playing Rush. Superb.
Will probably buy both BF3 and CoD though. Still very much love CoD and will probably play both games just as much as each other given I don't think they're entirely comparable.

Hmm that's not entirely true. With good drivers, pilots and gunners, vehicles can absolutely destroy the other team. I say this as someone who has been on both sides of this. Nothing worse than spawning, dying, spawning, dying over and over again to some chopper that won't let you move 2 feet. Not gonna lie though, it's awesome when you're dominating in a tank or heli yourself.

Like I said in the COD thread, I am getting bored of COD and so I have decided to buy this instead when it comes out. I still have the original bad company game which I really enjoyed but I just never got around to buying the 2nd one. I remember that it took a while of getting used to as it was so different from COD but I got really hooked to that game and hopefully I get hooked to this one!

A couple of weeks on, and I haven't touched BFBC2 for a while ... if it can't keep me hooked for more than a week it's not a great game tbh.
Saying that, I've found a lot of games falling under this bracket more recently - Halo: Reach, L.A. Noire, etc.

I still think BFBC2 is by a mile the best multiplayer game on console, and I've been playing it for ages now. In Call of Duty, there are basically 2 ways to play. You either camp, or run around like a headless chicken. In Battlefield, you need to actually think about where you're going and what you're doing, and I realise that the tactical side is not for everyone. To me, Call of Duty is just so boring compared to Battlefield it's unreal.
Also, Call of Duty is easier. You can't stomp every single game in Battlefield like you can in CoD. In fact, I'd say that Call of Duty actually caters to bad players.

Bought Bad Company 2 on the recommendation of a few folk, including jay_7 and it's brilliant.
The video of the multiplayer on 3 makes me want to fist myself.

Any BF game > any COD game. Fact.
Maybe except for BF2142 which was shit.
The BF3 vid's might well look immense but remember those vid's are on extremely high-end PC's. There's no danger what so ever of the Consoles or the average PC having graphics like that in-game. That said however, BF never has and never will be about the graphics. It's the online gameplay and teamwork that really sets it on a whole other level that most shooters can only dream of.

Battlefield 3 pre-ordered off Origin. EA really want you to use that service for Battlefield 3 if you look at some of the things that you get with it.
I fucking love Battlefield Bad Company 2. I find it such a satisfying game to play and cannot wait for 3. One thing I really want to try and get better at though is sniping. I'm a horrible sniper on BFBC2. The changes they've made to the classes for Battlefield 3 are also interesting with this new support class. I also read they've introduced proning which I don't know if I'm a fan of which such huge maps but I'll wait and see from the beta whether I like it or not.

I didn't realise that they've brought that in. I can't see that being a very good move to be honest as I doubt it will do anything bar make life a wee bit easier for those people who love to lurk in bushes and the like.
3rd Division. Fantastic

The changes they've made to the different kits for BF3 are actually a return to the old Battlefield games, BC2 actually did something new but they're going back.
The prone thing shouldn't be too much of a problem, as they've introduced an interesting little feature to prevent it which I'm not sure if I should disclose because it hasn't been shown anywhere other than in the alpha.

You refering to this....
Quote
Daniel Matros (DICE Community Manager) has been talking in a podcast by Dont Revive Me Bro. He has recently confirmed that snipers will get scope reflection & scope sway to balance out the addition of prone. Snipers that stay still for a certain amount of time will have a reflection in their scope that will give away their position (appears as a small flash to the enemy). Snipers will also have scope sway to stop people from overusing them. Scope sway ensures the constant movement of the cross-hair so its not as simple as “aim and shoot”.
These features have been added to balance the addition of prone to Battlefield 3 gameplay. It will prevent snipers from being overused and stops snipers from constantly camping.

Got an invite to play the Alpha, but never took it up for some reason, but I think the above was announced a while back. Could be that you're talking about something completely different!
How was the alpha trial?
