Oh is it now?!
The console version has 4 gig worth of updates, and i know its pc aswell, i aint talking about the pc version.
"Battlefield 3 Update" 2.1 GB
"Rent a server/E - sports update" 1.1 GB
"Battlefield 3 Title update" 172mb
Okay so its closer to 3 and a half gig, ill admit that. Still pretty poor for any game to need this much patching.
I'm gonna throw you in my DeLorean and gun it to 88.

The actual patch to fix 'broken' elements of the game was only 2.1GB as you pointed out.
That patch corrected about 500 issues - a patch to fix just the M26 Dart w/underslung rail glitch would be a quick and tiny patch that DICE could have issued weeks ago.

Since developers have had patching made available to them they have became lazy, more and more games are being released not complete or just broken. EA seem to be really guilty of this, ive heard the past few FIFA games have been bad for it. Suposedly Mass Effect 3 was released with its pants ending to buy them time to finish the proper one, thats just a rumor tho.

I do agree with you here though. EA rushed this game in order to get it out before Call of Duty but in reality, it could have done with a few more months in the oven. I'm the last person to hate on DICE though. I think they've done a superb job with the game but I think if EA had stopped for a moment and thought how the game might benefit rather than their wallets, the game could really have been a star if it was coming out in say, February of this year.

I agree entirely with you mate. DICE have done a brilliant job, and im sure people will disagree but i think this game pissed all over MW3. MW3 was a bit of a disaster and it seems many COD loyalists have switched over to Battlefield.
EA only consider their wallets when it comes to any game, the sheer volume of overpriced DLC packs for just about every game they release proves this. EA's new policy to close down servers for older games to save money is a piss poor choice. You could still go online with Doom 3(not sure if you still can) on XBL 2 years ago and that games from 2004, and in 2011 EA were closing down servers for games that were no more than 3 years old.
Fallout New Vegas will always be my benchmark for games released before they were remotely ready, i know its not an EA game, but its a prime example of the current mentality of games studio's.
