Match Reports 26/2/11

Pencaitland 0 - 1 Gala Rovers
Close game where both sides failed to create many clear cut chances. Pencaitland started the better with cheecky and Deano standing out. A few half chances as well as a good penalty shout that was turned down was all that was created tho. Second half and Rovers came out the better side. A free kick from the right bye line was beaten out by the keeper but was stroked home first time by Alan Nichol from the edge of the box on the hour. Rest of the half was dominated by Gala except a galant effort from Pencaitland in the last five minutes that saw a few corners whipped in dangerously and another big penalty shout for hand ball - although it would have been harsh if it was given.

couldn't make the Hotspur game today due to misses being ill but heard we were 3 down after 20 mins then brought it back to 3 all before losing another two quick goals. Struggled for a team today and with a full squad we would give them more a game I reckon

h.o.l 5 gala hotspur .4 great start by hearts 3 nil up in 15 mins but all credit to gala for at one point getting it back to four all and actuly should have won the game but for the hearts heeper who was outstanding in his first game back from his ban. the boy with the hairband for gala is a cracking player and was making the hearts defence look like statues hearts only played for about 25mins then switched of and will have to buck their idears up if they want to start thinking of going up .although a see selkirk must of had a hard game at peeples as wel

Peebles Rovers Reserves 2 3 Selkirk Victoria
Peebles took the lead against the run of play before a Grant Brownlee header from close range squared it up at 1 all. PRR took the lead with an excellent strike from the edge of the box. Selkirk again levelled from the penalty spot with Darren Munro getting his 18th of the season. Into the second half, Peebles found themselves down to ten men when Mercer was clean through on goal. From the resulting free kick Gary Mcshane scored with a cracking free kick. Selkirk were under the cosh for the last 15 minutes from a determined Peebles side but held firm.
First point of note, the clowns at the side of the pitch ruined what had been a good hard fought game and will probably bring the club into the referees match report for the wrong season.
Second point, Selkirk may have missed chances and not played as they can, BUT today's results puts us 15 points clear of 3rd having played 2 more than Gala. And look to have an easier run in than HOL but today's results show that there are no easy games in this league

I would agree with your assessment of the game, good luck to Gala Rovers in the South Cup next Sat.

That's a fair assessment farrah. IMO, it spoiled what had been a decent match. Teams will be trying their upmost to end selkirks unbeaten run. Without asking HJ, what do YOU think the BAFL will do to PRR?

Not the first time this has been said about the numpties on the Peebles sideline. Must be a Peebles thing since isn't the guy who runs Tweeddale a bit of a prat now and again?

Eyemouth probably had the better of the chances and more of the ball in the first half despite stow going in 1-0 at ht due to an own goal, stow added a second in 2nd half and eyemouth managed to battle on to get it back to 2-2 and were unlucky not to win it in the end, pitch was really heavy and the ref was a absolute joke giving stow goal kicks for blatent corners a few times, free kick on the sideline when there boy fell over on a divot and denied a stone wall penalty when there boy handballed it when it was going to fall to an eyemouth player to score. never the less eyemouth done well to battle againest the 12 men and take a point home with them

Langholm came out on top of this game that could have went either way, thanks to a last minute headed goal that was dubiously allowed from a corner. Very tight game, played in surprisingly decent conditions, Tweedmouth took the lead through a well made cross by Baigy was met by the head of Dodd. Both teams were getting stretched when a flick on was picked up by the Langholm number 10, good player this lad, tucked it past Paulson. Looked like a draw was on the cards until almost the last kick of the game. Corner came in, keeper spilt in under pressure, then he and the ball was bundled into the onion bag.
Langholm lads were very gracious towards our lot as we fully deserved at very least the point. Amateurs are much improved after a disastrous winter and will cause a few upsets again from here on in. Top set of lads at Langholm, game was played in excellent spirits despite the ref really doing his best to spoil this one for both sides, hope they make it up this year.
