It was held in Gala in August. Clubs were invited to attend and sufficient numbers were obtained to justify holding a course. Clubs were warned at the time that those who did not attend may have to go to Glasgow to complete the 2 day course. It would appear a few buried their head in the sand hoping this would go away, it has now come back to haunt them. It may be that IF there were enough clubs able to attend, the Med Centre at Hampden may run another one locally or there may be some in Edinburgh for the Lothian clubs that Borders clubs could attend.
Personally I don't agree with this ruling in my opinion it is a tick box operation and another indirect tax on the amateur clubs. However it was voted in and we have to comply I would imagine the penalty for not having a SIC holder in place will be a hefty fine as it would have to be an amount to "persuade" clubs to comply otherwise it would be easier (and cheaper) to pay the fine.

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

I think there is about a dozen or so clubs who have never actually held a certificate although this may have changed if clubs have attended courses outwith the area. There are a further 8 or 9 clubs who will be due to renew their certificate in November 2011. This all depends on whether the SIC holders are still with their respective clubs!! The certificate is valid for 2 years. New applicants attend a 2 day course whilst the refresher course is just a day.
