I mostly follow junior football but my friends and i have been talking on why some of the good amatuer players dont step up.The Amateur game these days are flooded with good players, some of them should most definetly be playing at a higher level.
Boys like Div mckay , Beanzy of the drum and Paul mcauley of colville park these boys could easyly play at a higher level. I only realy know players from the central and having seen many central games these 3 boys have stood out , iam interested to know if anybody thinks there is players from the other leagues who can compete with these 3 players quality and at a higher level??? Most people say the central league is the best because of the quality of the teams and players and it has been proven in the last few years all you have to do is look at the major cups and how the central teams domanate each year.

I've also seen some cracking Sunday league players over the years as well as in the Saturday amateur ranks. Think they are more interested in following the team they support on a Saturday.
I would say most amateur players are playing at this level for a few reasons.
If they are enjoying their football why bother going up a level just to sit on a bench somewhere. Scottish football in general does not encourage the development of young players. If somebody loves playing then they need to be playing at a level that lets them play most weeks. Whatever anybody says, you can't develop, improve fitness etc, etc if you are getting splinters in your backside every week. The expression "you should PLAY at the highest level you can" is quite appropriate, but sitting on a bench more often than not, to me is not playing.
I'm afraid also that you can't give somebody the "hunger" to get to the top, if they don't have it already, they won't get it.
Too many distractions for young players nowadays.

Paul McAulay was with Pollok last season but took the huff about a year ago because he reckoned he'd not get a game once Robert Downs got himself fit. Downsy never really did and when Dingwall picked up an injury we ended up playing with no strikers for a spell.
Total lack of ambition - the lad was actually playing more often than not.

Blantyre tic - i have seen blantyre celtic 4 times this season ans there wasnt any player that stands out as being anything close to the standard of beanzy, div mackay, mcauley, some good honest footballers but nothing more.
the boy mcauley could have done a job at pollock but my understanding is he felt a bit left out

A bit left out?
He was one of 5 strikers for 2009-10, including Davie Turnbull, Bryan Dingwall, Alan Waddell and Robert Downs. Dingy rightly was first choice, but the second spot was up for grabs and big Turnbull was a good foil for the wee man. Despite having two superior players ahead of him, he was in every match squad during his time at Lok (21 occasions). Only 4 times did he not either start or get off the bench.
Total stats was: 7 starts, 10 subs, 5 goals.
Again, had he shown the bottle to stay and fight for his spot, he'd have done fine as Waddell had already left and Turnbull walked out not long after McAulay left. He was supposed to be going to the USA (that's what we were told) yet was turning out for Lanark not that long after leaving us for Colville.
He's got ability but the way he left us - in the lurch- perhaps no ambition. It was also a strange time to leave as the manager had just quit.

RRG I have seen regular games from the premier this season at Southcroft,I also watched a Drum utd side take Five off a strong Beith side and take Four off Pollok while toying with them, and thats Two of the top teams so I too have not been too impressed with the so called higher level.
Getting back to players the boy Mulvey always stood out for me seems to be getting back to his best after a few injuries in recent seasons.

Here Here!!
I watched the drum dispose of both teams aswell with relative ease.
The gap is shortening all the time with junior and the amateur game. just my opinion

Of course you are correct
Thorn Athletic is full of ex juniors and regularly beat the junior teams in our area
