Came across this in todays Press & Journal, copied the article out for you, sorry if you already know about it which you probably do but I thought it might be of interest.

Clyne tells true story of Arbroath hammering

"Former International marathon runner Fraser Clyne has published a new football book which will be of interest to Aberdeen football enthusiasts, even though it's mainly about Arbroath FC
The Arbroath FC Miscellany is a collection of stories , anecdotes, facts and statistics about his home-town club.
Clyne has explored the true story behind Arbroath's world record 36-0 Scottish Cup hammering of Bon Accord, dispelling the myth the Aberdeen side was a cricket club which accidently found itself in the cup."

Thanks for the heads up Beastie, it is a good book. Well worth having if you are a fan or even have a passing interest in the Lichties.
Champions of Division 3 2010-2011, well chuffed!

When is the last time YOUR team won at IBROX in the league verses the treble winners?!

To be called a idiot from other idiots is hardly an insult, it is just an observation from ones who know too little.

Dinna tell me:
"The popular myth has arisen, chiefly amongst detractors of Arbroath FC and their outstanding achievement, that Aberdeen Bon-Accord was in fact a cricket club, that having boarded the wrong charabanc inadvertently found themselves playing in a match of an entirely different code. The team from up north had clearly consumed copious amounts of strong ale on their trip down, since it was well into the match before it dawned on some of its members that this was the case, with several repeatedly haranguing the "umpire" [sic] with cries of "foozat!" throughout the proceedings."
This of course was a nonsense, a myth which I can finally lay to rest: Bon-Accord were not a cricket team: a combination of impenetrably broad doric, no doubt made worse by the fact that they had in one of their player's own words "teen a bucket on'a wye doon" and a poor command of French pronunciation, meant that they were misconstrued. The truth is that Aberdeen Bon-Accord were in fact a croquet team."

I note that the book also mentions a game played a year earlier (in September 1884) where the Lichties scored 11 against Montrose FC.

What was their excuse for being so crap?
