We got my Dad one of the new £89 Kindles. He's not been off it since Christmas day. 
If I spent a lot of time on public transport etc. I'd definitely buy myself one. But I drive mainly, so it would be a bit of a waste of money.

Got a touch keyboard that comes up on the screen at the touch of a button. Really like me new kindle.

You can get an attachment that clips the Kindle onto the steering wheel.
Great for motorways but less useful on country roads.
