does any one have the formula to make the brown sauce you only get in chippies is it just a case of cheap sauce mixed with vinegar if so how much of each or is there more to it?

I'd suggest at 70-30 ratio of broon tae vinegar.

They sell a decent version in my local chippy, think it's called goldstar or something like that.

round where i live the chip shops are shite. rubbish chips manky cod none of them will entertain frying a pizza and not a single chip shop i have been to in 13 years has sauce all they will sell you is a sachet of ketchup.

You can get brown sauce in Greenock but only tourists from the east would ever use it. Salt and vinegar (or at a push ketchup is by far the best. And that's before the age-old gravy/curry conundrum.

It's not even vinegar, it's non-brewed condiment which is a solution of ethanoic acid with brown colouring in it.

You can get brown sauce in Greenock but only tourists from the east would ever use it. Salt and vinegar (or at a push ketchup is by far the best. And that's before the age-old gravy/curry conundrum.

Just over the water in Rothesay they have the usual choice of salt and "vinegar" but for 20p extra you can have gravy, curry sauce or "seasoning" which is a mysterious brown powder dispensed from one of those big glass dredger things.

The lack of proper chippy sauce is madness. That and big fucking proper rolls are the two things I miss most about not living in Fife any longer.

What's your favourite Stirling chippy? I have to say, I don't go to the chippy nearly as much as I do in Fife, so I've hardly been anywhere other than the Golden Bird (you know, the one with the white fish on the sign outside...) because it's just round the corner.
