Has anyone used a controller to play this yet? I can't afford to buy a steering wheel and every review I have read says they have used a wheel to play the game. Not sure what it will be like with a pad.

I did for about an hour before setting up my wheel. Its still awesome with the pad although I changed it from R2 and L2 to X and Square for Gas and Brake. I doubt I'll play it much with a pad unless I cant be fucked setting up my wheel. Which I can imagine will stay set up for the forseeable future.

Just thinking, how do others have their wheels etc set up? For me cause you have to screw it onto a surface I use my Ironing Board which works perfect. Adjustable height and the legs dont get in the road of the pedals :D

I'm using a pad, and whilst I'm admittedly hopeless at the moment it's still a fantastic game

The day I play games by screwing a plastic wheel onto an ironing board is the day I sell my games consoles.

My game came in the post this morning, it is a fantastic game.

Started a 3 year career at Virgin, qualified on pole and won the Bahrain GP easily, I think I need to bump up the difficulty a bit!

I haven't had one in a couple weeks, but I have today for the weekend so hopefully your idea is good for both of us!

Bought it from ASDA at 8.30am this morning and only just stopped playing. This game is a thing of beauty. Absolutely awesome.

£37. Was going more in hope, than expectation, that they would be doing it on the cheap with it being the first day of release.

Bought it today to see what all the fuss was about. Liking it so far. Started a 5 year career with BMW-Sauber. Finished 7th in Bahrain, after being 11th from the start. Its funny because at the start of the race I thought it was the warm up they do before getting into position, so as the guy over the radio was like just take it easy and get a feel for the car I let everybody pass me!!! So finishing 7th was good. Didnt do the full 49 laps, did 25.

I'll do Melbourne sometime later on to see how I get on. :D
I LOVE ROVERS. THEY ARE MY TEAM

Some game, looks incredible, still getting used to it after an hour of play after work. 7 year career with Lotus. Should be fun.

Went with Lotus with a 7-year career to kick things off...

Finished my first weekend .. decided to do the full 49 lap race as I had a couple of hours to kill. Just about made the cut in Q1 and Q2 so was ready to settle for 10th on the starting grid. I somehow though managed to shave a second and a half off my best time which was good enough for pole.

For the race itself I had to pit early on after a collision with Alonso fucked my front wing so I was struggling from the start. I was as high as 7th but ended up finishing 11th.

Overall it's a cracking experience and I noticed in the practice session for the next race they set you targets that allow you to upgrade your car's spec - pretty nifty.

Don't think I'll be doing the full race distance for future races, though.

Picked this up today, only played it for an hour or so but have to say i'm very impressed. I'm only using my controller at the minute as i haven't set the wheel up yet but really enjoying the game. Picked a 7-year career with Lotus which seems to be most people's choice but haven't actually done any career yet. Just went into a time trial mode at melbourne in a ferrari all aids off except traction on medium. I know the track layout well but still spent the first few laps tentatively, managed to finally post a valid time on my 5th lap at 1.35 after maybe 20 mins or so managed to bring it down to 1.30 and was pretty chuffed. Backed out and checked the online leaderboards and found out the top time was 1.21 so thought i'd have another crack but this time went in a mclaren and managed to get it down to a 1.27.9(admittedly the mclaren may be slightly better than the ferrari but i'd like to thing it was some improvement on my behalf). Had to go and get tea after that but will be heading on later probably practicing Bahrain in preperation for first race of the career, but overall loving this game and could see it being very interesting online.

Got the game for about £20 on PC and it is very good looks great and feels very real. Only problem is possibly too real I am in easy mode and it is pretty unforgiving on the casual gamer not that use to that type of game. I will persevere though and hopefully be able to get round a lap without going off the track or invalidating the next lap eventually. Great game but maybe the learning curve is a bit steep.

I assume you can do just one season as any driver as well as doing a career?

Well you can only do 3,5 or 7 year careers but I think you could do a grand prix and pick all the tracks to play back to back. Not sure if that would track points though

Ah damn ok. I kinda prefer the old system where you picked an actual driver for a season than being yourself in a career! Ach well :P

If you go to 'Grand Prix' mode you can set up a 'Custom Season' which will allow you to do that. :)

You can just do a season with a driver of your choosing.

As a sim-racer this was never aimed at me, but I got it as I so wanted a F1 game and there is nothing out there until iRacing gets the William F1 car scanned in and released (near December) So with hope in my heart, and -£30 from my current account. I download the game and give it a fair crack. Still not sure even after 3+ hours

Unfortunately in many ways this is a rubbish game

  • The AI jerk about all over the place and take 'unusual racing lines'
  • For the love of all that is holy....let us pit our own. Using just throttle and brake is not manual pitting.
  • The handling is sub par at best. I can just catch slides...however starting them on purpose seems to be hit or miss. I just don't feel as if it's a 700+bhp monster engine I'm driving but a Corsa
  • Also in regards to the handling. It feels disconnected to the track and very sluggish
  • The bugs....oh dear good the bugs. Can we not have a game that on release does not have painfully obvious bugs.
  • Controls seem to suffer from heavy input lag, also noticed (for the first time ever) sound lag with regards to the gear chances!!! Simple fix but still pretty shocking
  • Cockpit view is rubbish, hopefully there is a mod out for that soon to stop the shakes which give me a headache.
  • Penalties are way too sensitive
  • Silverstone seems to be off a bit...one of the other sims i race (iRacing) has laser scanned tracks actuate to within a couple of cm's (sometime mm's if it's a US track) so I'm comparing bits of that track to the one in F1. From Maggot through to Stowe seems exaggerated along with Lufffield

Well I could go on. I'm not being picky by any means but there is just so much that seems to be wrong. Some of these things can be fixed (I expect a patch for the PC to be out within the next 2-3 weeks...not too sure what it is like on the consoles) but currently it's not the game for me. Maybe should have gone for Civ 5

All I've read about the PC version is that its shite compared to the console version. Also a few of the bugs you mentioned are only on the PC one too, like the steering and audio lag.

Anyhow, I played this online with a mate tonight for a good 4 hours solid and I think I love it even more. We done mini championships of like 5 races in a row, 20% race distance against 10 other AI drivers on hard difficulty. Made for some terrific races. My favourite of which was at Brazil in a 14 lap race. I had an awful start and was fighting my way through from the back. When I eventually got 2nd I was a good bit behind Schumacher, but he pitted leaving me in 1st with half the race gone. I decided to stay on the options as they hadnt started to wear yet and was starting to pull away. Decided to stay out until the 2nd last lap where I had to pit for the prime tyres and hoped I'd done enough to come out ahead of Schumi... and I had, just. Came out just ahead of him and held my position going into the 4th corner and all the way to the finish for my first race win of the night (a few more followed). :D

All in all, the online is immense, especially against your mate with the headsets and steering wheels.

I don't think a Williams is going to give you an accurate sense of speed of an F1 car! :P

Two races into my first season now. At Bahrain I qualified seventeenth and finished seventh, at Melbourne I qualified comfortably on pole and romped home to victory by over twenty seconds!

Gonna put the difficulty up another notch, I don't want every race to be a skoosh, I want a challenge.
